Title: Fed hw 7 test
Post by: SumToy on July 26, 2012, 10:15:30 AM
Ok guys. The Fed Hw 7 31/2*17/8*7 has been asked about.  I have never liked the shell in anything other then the invector plus guns or 835/935.   After folks ask over and over I tried one this morn.

Rem 870 plain stock never cleaned other then brush.
Temps was around 80 and humidity was high.
Choke 660

179 in the 10
148 in the 20 few off paper because it shot low. (No more then 10)

What kind of numbers have yall seen

William, what kind of results have you seen from them in the Invector plus guns??
In the past I have had good results with the 3" in remington bores it averaged around 180 in the mid 60-70 degree weather. Feel free to shoot me a pm.

The shoot look big to be 7's.  The winchester 6 we shot looks about the same.  The fed real looks like it had both in it.

Supposedly Federal misloaded some of their HW 7 shells with 6 shot.  It was mentioned here in an earlier thread.  If you call Federal, they should give you the lot numbers of those shells.   I would also be very interested in how that Remington patterned the 3 inch HW 7's, especially thru a .650 tube. :OGturkeyhead:

I will get some of them.  I had always shot the lead shell to build the choke.  I got the HW to just play with.  Now I DONT like to choke the shell small.  The wad is not forgiving.  Now that said this was a nice hunting pattern for the temps we shot in.  One more thing is if it is a 6 I know I like it.

Did you keep the lot numbers.

I fgured the .650 choke would yield better 10 inch patterns than the .660 tube with those HW 7's.  I'd love to see how the 3 inch HW 7 patterns thru both of those chokes?? And I don't have any of the Lot #'s that were loaded with 6's instead of 7's.
