Title: Holes in the pattern...
Post by: mossyoakpro on June 09, 2012, 12:32:12 PM
What causes holes in your pattern?  I shot my new 20 today and nearly all of the chokes had some pretty good holes in them.

All shots fired from a lasered 40 yds shooting from a bench.

Thanks!!

Sorry...Fed HW 7's out of a 26" 1187

Truglo SSX
Carlson 570
Primos Tightwad
Pure Gold Tempest 770

Believe it or not the tightwad was the best pattern of the bunch....not great but the best of this lot.  Kind of surprised me.  I am thinking about going to Sumtoy and seeing what he can do for me....

Usually it's a sign of over choking.

That, or you REALLY need to clean your barrel, and chokes!!  Have you at least deep cleaned and/or polished the pipe on that gun?  A dirty barrel can cause poor patterning as easilly as over choking in some guns...

Try something in the 555 to 562 range ,my 870 20 loves the PG or IC 555.

How big are the holes?   Some holes are normal, just due to statistics.

If you want you can try my PG 555. PM me if you want to try it.

John

Thanks!!  I may take you up on that....I am gonna clean her up good and start again and see what happens.  I am going down toward Sumtoy Customs this month on business....I think I will pay them a visit to see what William has to say.

Thanks again!!
