Title: star dot and mag blend
Post by: fletchy on May 23, 2012, 03:58:41 PM
hey guys ive seen alot of talk of the stardot chokes on here so i patterned mine. its in a 24inch mossberg 500 and i was shooting 3inch hevi shot mag blends. At 41 yards i only got 133 in the 10 ring. That is the only hevi shell shot from that combo. It seems to prefer 3inch federal #5 with the flight control wad copper plated lead. I was expecting it to do better than 133.

Just about everything you've heard or read about the performance of Stardots is in the 835's. Hadn't heard of many good things about them in anything else. Mine didn't care for the magblends either.

I had one for a 835 it didnt do all that great with copper plated lead when I used it. I sold the choke to a co-worker after i sold the 835.

See now you made two HUGE mistakes right there.  You sold the stardot AND the 835.   :bike2:

133 with Hevi is very low. Most of the Stardot talk is related to the 835, but I've hunted with one for years in a 870. It's performed great for me with lead and Hevi. With 3" Magblends I get average around 170 in the 10 ring at 40 yds, even though most people don't seem to like the Stardot in the Remingtons. I would expect similar results between the 535 and the 870, so 133 would not cut the mustard for me.

Yes 133 wasnt what I was looking for either! That combo with winchester supreme #5s or federal fcw #5s has killed birds way past the talking range! For alot cheaper than mag blend! It will stay a lead gun.

My stardot in my win 1300 shoots very nice even patterns I can only shoot 3" shells but pretty sure 170 is about right.
