Title: Do you think a gobbler can...
Post by: barry on May 15, 2012, 06:17:52 PM
...tell the difference between a decoy with a full fan and one with a jake fan?

Do you think they know that a DSD jake is in fact a jake?

I'm quite sure they are not capable of reasoning with a brain that small.

I think they can definitely tell a jake from another gobbler.  Not sure if they see the tailfan, beard or size of the bird but they sure seem to know.

Gobblers or turkeys in general can't think. They are not advanced/smart enough.

Turkeys react to danger.

I agree with Joe.  If they have been beat, they know they are not the strongest so they will not be as willing to fight.  If they are the boss, they know it and will stand their ground.  This spring what I saw was more about numbers.  A lone tom would not come in because there were groups of toms and jakes in the area.
