Title: Advise needed, time now.
Post by: anthonyjhallen on May 09, 2012, 04:22:53 PM
I am getting this bird mounted.  I usually eat my turkeys, so this is a first for me.

Whats the best way to go? Freeze dried or plastic head? I am going to look at a guys work in a few hours.  What do I need to be looking at besides realism?

Thanks in advance.

Anthony freeze dried head is the only way to go. Make sure you see his work because turkeys are a specialty item and are not easy even for an experienced taxidermist. I would say look at some real good taxidermy work before you go. That will give you some good idea on what to look for. I would google search these taxidery guys:
birdsonly John Beard, hazel creek Calley Morris, Shane smith, The turkey roost Rick Morris, Harry whitehead, campbells, just to name a few.

you can still eat the breast. You just have to be careful and not cut too much skin to get it out. I mounted my first turkey and still ate good.

Never mounted a turkey yet, but I'd eat my hat if Joe wasn't on par with his advice!!  :icon_thumright:

Who did you use??

Mike Travis from upper bay taxidermy in Kent county used to work with Callie and he still uses Callie to do his heads.

You'll have trouble finding anyone any better.

Joe, you got a fine list of starters right there,  i guess any of them could mount one for me
