Well I'm a little late posting this but I just now got time to upload my pictures from my camera. Back on Wednesday I finally filled my second tag here in Kentucky. After several days of not being able to get on a gobbling bird I was walking down a trail at first light on a property I hunt headed for the back of the property where they usually roost. Once I got half way back or so a diesel truck fired up somewhere off in the distance and a gobbler shock gobbled within about 80 yards of me. I ducked down and got set up against the nearest good tree I could find. After a few minutes I let out a tree yelp sequence and he hammered back. I waited until about time for flydown and did a fly down cackle and slapped my hat against my leg to make it more realistic. He pitched out of his tree about two minutes later and headed straight to me and I got a shot at about 15 yards. I was back to the jeep by 6:15. He had a 10 inch beard and 1 1/8 inch spurs. It was one of those mornings a person dreams of.
Here's another picture of him.
You did good. It's easy to mess up those surprise birds that light up close in like that.
good job. like i say sometimes it's better to be lucky then good.
