Hey guys shot my first turkey on the second day of NY's season. 8" beard and 3/4" spurs. Shot him at about 30 yards using my SBE 2 and 3" winchester XRHD #6 shells. What a thrill it was. I have shot Antelope, bear, many deer and this made my heart pound and shake just like all the others did. Cant wait to do it again.
Welcome to the madness!!! Congrats!
Congratulations! It's like your first Love, you never forget your First! The Hook has been set now, enjoy the Ride!
Congrats on a fine bird. That first gobbler makes a memory that you will never forget. It's fun huh.
WTG! :wav: Congrats... Now your hooked ;D
Great Job, I too enjoy it just as much as deer hunting!
Congrats on the first of what I hope is many.
Thanks to all. Does anyone have an idea how old this bird may be?
Congrats! :funnyturkey: Can you snap a pic of the spurs? Then we can tell you how old he is.
Congrats!
Based on his spurs and beard length he's probably a two year old. But a turkeys age is just a guess at best.
Congrats brother....thats a good bird....you know Turkey hunting is alot like elk hunting...some hunters have come unglued when a old gobbler or elk comes running and then screams in your face....you did good...Thunderbolt :z-winnersmiley:
Congrats. Welcome to the obsession.
Well done. Congrats. Upstate New York is beautiful country.
Congrats :icon_thumright:
Sweet deal...congrats :icon_thumright:
Way to go!
If the spurs are rounded and not pointed (kind of sharp), then I would say he is two years old. After a bird reaches 3 years old then it gets difficult to tell. You can tell if they are rounded or broken off it you look closely.
Had a buddy kill a banded bird in KY several years ago and the spurs were just under 1.25" and very sharp. When he called in the band information, the bird was banded as jake and was 7 years old.
Again, congratulations on your first!
Very nice going,congrats!!
Congrats! :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
First ones out of the way, now you can lay the hate.

Congrats on your first. If you don't mind me asking, where in NY did you get him?
real good chance that he's a 2 year old with 3/4 and 8" beard...not an exact science though

Thanks for all the compliments. I got him in the town of Afton in chenango county. Not too far from Binghampton.
