Started out in Eastern Colorado, a few birds but a lot more hunters. Decided to go over the line into Kansas, buy a license and permit....2 hours later called in and shot my biggest Rio to date. The 9.5" beard was so so but this guys hooks were awesome...one went 1" and the other was 1.25". WOW! It was so hot that afternoon that carrying that bird out (about a mile is all) was actually a chore. I told my wife that it felt like hauling out a hind quarter of Elk. Not complaining...just talkin'! We went back to CO and the next morning found us back at the roost tree way before light along with high winds, COLD and RAIN. The birds couldn't hear me or chose to ignore...they walked out into some winter wheat and stayed there. OH Well, good weekend overall!
Here are the hooks...
Nice bird, congrats :icon_thumright:
Nice hooks too :icon_thumright:
Congratulations, that is a nice bird and great hooks.
:icon_thumright:

Great bird. Congratulations
Congrats on the nice turkey bird..
Congrats!!
Congrats Jerry! Nice bird and nice spurs!
love the hooks!
Congrats, great looking bird.
If I was going to illegally take a bird, I wouldn't come on here bragging about it. Your KS tag wasn't valid till the next calendar day, so in essence you poached a bird. Congrats.
Congrats...
You are correct nativeks. That is way I buy mine on-line before I go.READ THE REGS.

The guy bought a license and you want to crucify him on semantics.
Congrats to dinger on a great bird.
I believe that you can purchase the license and permit and hunt for one bird on the same day. The next day rule applies to the 2nd bird tag. Only if you purchase the tag ahead of time can you harvest 2 birds on the same day. I always buy both several weeks before my trip, so I never have to worry about it, but this is my interpretation after reading the regulations.
Congrats on a great bird. I'll be there tomorrow through the first of next week.

No, I must confess....I was ignorant of the regs. I just poured over the regs and here is what I found...
h) Each turkey permit and each second turkey game tag purchased during the open season shall be valid beginning on the calendar day "AFTER" the date of purchase.
I was wrong and I indeed "poached" this bird. I will be contacting the Kansas game and fish to see what I should do. Thank you for enlightening me to my screw-up. I ensure you it was not intentional but that is no excuse. "READ THE REGS" is sound advice for us all. Dinger.....

Your interpretation is so far off its unreal. You can not buy a tag and hunt on the same day. You can kill 2 birds in one sit if you have both tags on you and they are valid.

nativeks, you are correct:
From the KDPWT website
(b) Big game and wild turkey permits and game tags.
(1) A permit or game tag purchased during the open season shall not be valid until the next calendar day.
thank you for correcting me. I've never had to worry about it because I buy mine electronically well in advance of hunting. I'll be glad to buy you a beer, right after I harvest 2 of your state's fine toms.

I know of a gentleman who was hunting sandhills cranes in Kansas...a Kansas resident. On a foggy morning he and two other hunters accidently shot whooping cranes. Fog , coulldn't see etc.
They did the right thing and turned themselves in to the Game Warden.
$ 250,000 fine....lost all hunting priveleges for something like 5 years.
Just an fyi.
