Title: Wood ID Help
Post by: ccleroy on April 07, 2012, 11:24:28 AM
This wood came off the old boardwalk in Atlantic City New Jersey, a friend gave it to me to cut a couple pots, it is very hard and tight grain, any ideas on what it might be, I know it's heavy as anything I've held.

That's what I was thinking. I think that it is also called ironwood. I've heard of that  stuff being used for decking material such as for boardwalks or for home decks as well. One of the local hardwoods suppliers here in central pa carries it for decking:http://www.middletownlumber.com/ipegarapa.html

If yellow dust flys everywhere when you cut it, its probably Ipe.
