I've listened to both of these calls and can't make up my mind. I like the high/frontend raspy/backend two note yelp and the raspier the better. Those of you with experience with each call please chime in. Thanks.
Twisted Sister has more bite too it for sure, I wouldnt trade mine for anything. ear peircing front end automatic roll over into hard edgy rasp. you can still get soft on it and take to rasp out for the sweet little high pitch tree clucks and yelps
I dont think you'd end up with buyers remorse over either though
I have played both at David's booth at a hunting show and I walked away with the Twisted Sister, this call has a great breaking yelp and can get loud or soft. Either one is a fine call and you cannot go wrong either way.
Got both and they're really close. It takes a discriminating, seasoned ear to tell much of a difference. CM is a bit "clearer" of tone and was death on my three toms last year, so it'll be hard to switch. The TS has more rasp for sure and sounds bold with a pronounced rollver with a fish hook stroke. If David is following this thread I'd like to hear his thoughts.
Can anyone post a link to a soundfile or youtube of the twisted sister? Thanks
There's a video on David's Facebook and do a search on here someone posted a video a little while ago.. All it took was me hearing those 2 shot clips and I bought mine
crystal mistress is cleaner with less overall rasp. the twisted sister has a clear front and dead on rasp on the back, but has just a touch more edge or bite on the front end than the mistress. if i had to pick only one, it would be the twisted sister.
I prefer the Crystal Mistress.
the crystal mistress is a killer!! I havent heard the twisted sister yet but everyone of Davids calls Ive seen or had was a top notch and pure turkey !
These guys have nailed it. I have both and they are awesome! Cannot go wrong. Twisted sister has an edgier bite on the font end and nasty rasp on the tail end. Crystal Mistress is clearer and a little less raspy on the break over. Kinda like Carrie Underwood vs Stevie Nix. Twisted sister has been smoking a few years.
Here is a clip of me running the Crystal Misstress.

I thought the Twisted Sister was new for this year. Did you mean the Crystal Mistress has been smoking for years??
Twisted Sister is new. He was comparing the rasp to a long time smoker. I heard that statement before regarding this call. :smiley-patriotic-flagwaver-an

Exactly, I just meant it sounded very similar to the Mistress only a few years down the road after smoking a few packs per day.
Here is me running the the Twisted Sister. I preferred the Mistress untill listened to these clips I just made. Cannot go wrong either way. I used the same striker on each call for comparison. It is a Halloran Macassar Ebony striker.

Man, I think ya just sold me on both. Thanks for the posts.
If I were you guys, I would look hard at the Halloran Double Glass, that is the one I chose. A guy I know asked David last week on the phone what call he would choose if he could only take one call to the woods; his answer was "the Mistress with the Double Glass a close second". I thought this was worth sharing. As others have stated, I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with any of his pots as I have heard numerous success stories about all of them. Best of luck with your final choice.
The double glass is another great one!! David knows how to make a deadly turkey call!!
Hey drenalinld,
Wanted to say "Thanks" for the sound clips
James
You are welcome. I hope it helps you make up your mind. My motto is when in doubt buy them both. As stated his double glass and his slates are also freakishly good.
I already have the crystal mistress, but that was the first time I had heard the twisted sister. Good job on the sound clips. :fud: :OGani:
I picked up a Twisted Sister last week and Man that call sounds & looks great. I had a Crystal Mistress last year and I couldn't get it to sound good. I sounded like a South Bronx pigeon. (It was me, not the call).
Dave Halloran called me back last Thursday afternoon and I told him what I was looking for in his calls and he suggessted the Crystal Mistress and said he would go thru them and send me the raspiest one he had. He shipped it out from New York on Friday and I received it here in West Tennessee yesterday(Monday). Now that's what I call service. And by the way, it is the best sounding friction call that I own. And I have a cabinet full!! :turkey2:
thats great!
I paired an Ivory tip over Cocolobo striker from gobblerstopper with my Twisted Sister... you ever get the chance pick one up, WELL worth it.
I do not have a Twisted Sister, but the turkey sure like the Crystal Mistress. The first year I had mine, I was using my old tried n true slate call, the gobblers were quiet that morning ony shock gobbling at an owl. The CM was new so I hadn't tried it on a bird yet, I hit the call and 9 different toms cut me off every time a did a call sequence, the whole ridge lit up w gobbles. Needless to say I never leave home without it.

yep, a fine call in its self. does he still produce it?
Both are sweet!
I'm a huge fan of crystal calls. Currently, I own a Woodhaven Vision (my go to call), a Woodhaven Cherry Classic and a Supreme Pure Death Pinnacle. Last year I bought a Crystal Misstress and ended up selling it to a buddy who just loves it. Even though I really tried to talk myself out of buying another one, I couldn't resist it and just ordered a Twisted Sister from Mack's Prairie Wings (on sale for $49.99). I'm leaving for KY friday morning so I had it overnighted. I ended up paying only a couple dollars more than I would have at regular price with standard shipping. They said that I should have it by tomorrow. Can't wait to get my hands on it!!! :you_rock:
If you want to talk dirty to an old tom, the Twisted Sister will sure sing the slutty tune!
The main reason I sold my Crystal Mistress was I like my calls a little raspier...from the reviews I've read it sounds like the Twisted Sister will be just the ticket. Man, my ears are ringing right now from playing around with my Vision Crystal. I tell ya, it's going to take a heck of a call to replace that one in my vest. Looking foward to seeing how David's call is going to stack up...

Did you listen to the Twisted Sister clip I posted in this thread?
Yep, I heard your clip and a couple of others. That's what led me to buy one. Honestly, I almost called David up to hear one in person, he only lives a couple of counties from me. In the end, I decided to just buy one since I haven't bought anything new for this spring.
Cool. If you like raspy, you should like that call. Good luck this Spring.
My Twisted Sister call came in about an hour ago and the verdict is...:z-winnersmiley:!!!
It's raspy, loud and obnoxious...a great new addition to the call arsenal. Can't wait to field test it in KY this weekend. :icon_thumright:
