Title: POA/POI ???
Post by: wisconsinteacher on March 25, 2012, 06:22:31 PM
I have an 870 SM with a red dot on it and have it set up for 3" #6 and 3 1/2" #7 Hevi shot out to 40 yards.  Today at the Learn to Hunt sight in with kids, we were given a box of #5 Hevi Shot to shoot.  They were 3" rounds.  At 20 yards, I was about 3" hit with my point of impact from where I aimed.  I ususally aim on a turkey where the feathers meet the color of the head.  I am good to go or would you move the sight a little and try again?  I did not get a chance to shoot at 40 with this load.  Like I mentioned, it is dead on at 40 yards.

I would say the different load is causing a difference, which is common.

Why are you changing?  Do you have enough to let the youth hunter use?  Just let him/her use yours, likely will only be one shot.

Let them shoot the 3" #6.

Are you 3" high?

I will go with the #6s.  We were told to use the #5s but they will not know if I put the "wrong" shell in.

They don't have all the knowledge that we have here.  The 6's will kill easily and you already know how they shoot.  Just put the 5's away as a "swap" for using your 6's.

I agree about the knowledge on this site.  I have killed with both the #6 and #7s.  I was a little suprized about the 3" high at 20 yards with the #5s today.  I have the 6s in my pocket already.
