OK, so I have a bit of a problem. I was looking to get a Jelly Head .660 choke for my 870 and was going to use Hevi Shot #7s. I have been to every sporting goods store, gun store, Walmart, etc. in a 50 mile radius and I have not been able to find Hevi Shot #7s anywhere. None of the shops seem to ever get them in either. One of the shops carry a Hornady turkey specific shell. I Know they make an awesome round (they are what I carry in my concealed carry gun). Would this be a good way to go for round or what would you suggest at this point?
Thank you all,
Rory
Hey Rory,
Unless you want to order the #7s or unless a store will special order them for you, I'd recommend that you try the Hevi-13 "Bronze" shells with 2 oz. of #6 shot. It's a great load.
Thanks,
Clark
Stay away from those Hornady turkey loads, they are garbage. Look for some Winchester XX either the XXT12L6 or STH12356 shells if you plan to shoot lead instead of the Hevi shot and need a 3 1/2 inch shell. If you need them in 3 inch look for the X123MXCT6 or STH1235. Just check the boxes for these numbers. All of these shells shoot awsome in my guns. Otherwise you'd most likely need to order the Hevi-7's from your preferred website.
My gun is a Remington 870 Exp. So I can only shoot the 3" shells out of it. With that setup, what would you guys recommend me getting as my choke and shells? There is the possibility of me ordering in shells, I haven't even thought about that.
If I do order in shells, would you still recommend me staying with a Jelly Head .660 and Hevi-7's?
i know there are alot of chokes out there and there are plenty of great ones, i have 4 870's and an 11-87 i have 2 of my 870's choked with a ventilater choke and one has a jelly head and one with kicks, i shoot lead only, mine love the win hv's in the 3x 13/4 x6's or the winchester super x in 3x1 7/8x5, i get around 100-110 with ventilator and around 120-125 with kicks and jelly,,,

Everyone has a favorite choke or one that's worked well for them. I try to shoot all of them and find several, with different "internal geometry", that work well in my Rem-Choke guns. The SSX, the Hevi-13 Turkey Choke and the new Pure Gold .660 all do well with the #7 Hevi-Shot shells.
Thanks,
Clark
My 3 inch with the Hevi-13 choke loves the Hevi-shot 7's and it is a Remigton.
Squall, that ONLY 3 inch 870 will kill every turkey in the woods.
Order it from here: You will have it FAST

The same store has the Hevi 13 #7's

Those 870's love the JH .660 and Hevi 7's....I wouldn't waste my money on anything else.
Here's what I would do. Order some Hevi-13 3" #7's from Midsouth Shooters Supply online. Then buy the Rem Ventilator .655 choke. You can still try the choke you have and see which one shoots the best. But the Ventilator I know seems to shoot well in Rem barrels. Now for the money, I know of no other choke that will beat it. That choke will shoot.

One final question I have. The hevi13 #7's do not exist where I am. But a lot of people carry the #6's. I know these are another really good round. Do they work as a good combo with the 870 and jh .660?
I would think with the .660 you should be fine with 6s. I shot hevi 13 6s through my dads express with a ssx .643 and got 180s in the 10" at 40 yards. So the .660 should do pretty good I would think.
