Title: what size do you cut your striker blanks?

....gonna turn out some just wondering what size blanks i should use.

I cut my blanks 1x1x9 to make a 7.5" striker

I generally cut my stock about 7/8".  I find that if I use a 1" thick blank to start with, I turn too thick of a striker overall.  I like mine just a bit thinner.  I also cut a 9" blank and finish near 7 1/2".  When I turn dymondwood strikers, I use an 8" blank that is 3/4" thick.  Try turning a 7 1/2" striker from an 8" blank.  The skew gouge becomes your best friend.  ;)

thanks i turned one out of cedar but i beleive i didnt make the counterweight  large enough it just dosent sound right to me.
