A general rule of thumb a lot of folks use for soundboards is 1/2" smaller than the surface.

I use 2 1/2" glass but will experiment with 2 3/4" glass next season-time to HUNT now!

I like my soundbaords about 1/4" from the sidewalls of the pot.

With a 3" surface?  Seems like that would make a soundboard about 2 1/4" across.  That doesn't leave much to "reverberate" inside the call???

With me, a 3.5" call has a 3" soundboard and a 3" call has a 2.5" soundboard.

It would really depend on what material you are going to use for the soundboard, but everything we do has a rule of thumb.
