Title: Joining the lead shooters....
Post by: FttFttVroom! on February 24, 2012, 10:19:56 PM
As soon as my last seven rounds of extended range are used up!  If HTL prices stay current or inflate even more, I'm going back to good ole Winchester lead.  I am really looking forward to patterning them again and not having to worry about feeding my family in the process :z-guntootsmiley:

With the insane increase on HTL prices i've noticed all week that lead shells were leaving the shelves quickly. I stocked up on some Winny 3.5 6's :you_rock:

Not a bad idea.

Yup, I bought ten boxes of win xx 3/2/6's,  HV 3/ 1 3/4 /6's  and win sup 3/ 1 7/8 /6's. I have good bit of Hevi 13 but I think I'm done buying HTL. Got a few of my rigs turning 110-130 in 10 @ 40 with Pb.  That's all I need to harvest turkeys. :icon_thumright:

Amen!  I have about 18 rounds of HTL left between 3.5" H13 6's & 7's, old white 3" 6's and WXR 3" 6's.  Nuff to last me the next 6 seasons here in VA.  I have already stocked up on lead prior to the price hike in HTL, I have about 200 rounds and that should last me for the next 60 plus seasons.

I tried some Winchester Supreme HV 3.5 #6 today and it was probably too windy to shoot....30-40 mph gusts.
I managed 84 in the ten with a .660 Jellyhead and the wind blew the pattern about a foot left.  I expect better numbers with decent weather and I'm planning to try the XX 2.25oz loads soon.

Shot again with better weather today and put up 101 hits vs. the 84 I had yesterday.
Much happier now and looking to tinker ever more now that it won't cost an arm and a leg!

I have killed a pile of turkeys with lead and they are all very dead. I figure the next bunch will be as well. reflexl

As soon as my small stash of Hevis are gone i'm done. I'm not paying that much for shells any more.
I killed birds with Pb for many moons and have no trouble switching back either.

Pattern and knowing the kill zone no reason to push the cost up any higher IMO with non lead.  For those coming back to lead.... Welcome back!  8-)
