Title: New Choke or diff loads
Post by: albrubacker on February 24, 2012, 09:15:02 PM
Trying to get my 26" Super Nova w/ a extra full flush mount SS Carlson's .685 set up. I tried 5 different loads at 40 yrd @ 10" circle. Should I try a few more loads or  try a new choke?

Fed. Mag-shok FC    2 3/4"  1 1/2oz 6s  51 hits
Kent Diamond Shot  2 3/4"  1 5/8oz 5s  47 hits
Win Supreme            3"        1 3/4oz 5s  41 hits
Win Supreme            3"        1 3/4oz 4s  39 hits
Kent Diamond Shot   3"        2oz       4s  29 hits

685 seems very open to me for a Benelli barrel. I'd try a different choke personally in the 650-660 range.

Is there any reason you're not shooting hevi-13, federal heavyweight or Winchester xr??

Additionally, I'd be running a .655-.665 diameter choke out of that gun.

As stated, tighten up your choke considerably.....an extended and ported choke should help you out.  Go with a smaller shot size like #6...they are plenty powerful at normal hunting distances.  Going with HTL like hevi or winchester extended range will up your #'s too, but also will up the cost considerably.  If you want a good lead load, try the red hull Winchester Supreme XX in the bigger payloads with the .655-.665 choke diameter.

Vaturkstomper; I have not tried any HTL mainly because of cost.  Thanks for all the input!

Yep.  Your gonna need about .655 exit diameter to get optimum pattern density with a Benelli and its .723 bore.

Try a new choke.

I would try both. Tighten up your choke ( my stoeger shoots best with a .650) As for the shells I would go with atleast 3" and stay away from the number 4's.

Both....

Get you a pure gold 670 and some Mag blends with your benelli.

Start by changing your choke to something tighter and shoot those loads again.
