Well after owning an 870, Nova and Maverick 88, I thought it was time to tryout Mossberg's turkey slayers.  I ordered it today and it will be in this Friday.  I was torn between the new 870 SM Turkey/Predator and the Thug, but my curiosity got the best of me and I stepped on over to the dark side.  Plus the price($547.00) seemed alright, so I went for it.  I was tired of lugging the Nova waterfowl edition and H&R Pardner 10 gauge I had up and down the Mts. here and went with the compact  20 inch barrel.
Wish me luck and I'm open to advice and suggestions.  I got some Hevi shot 6's and 7's ordered this morning and a IC .660 tube and I can't wait to try her out.  I had great success with the Nova and JH, so I might try one of them to, but I'm waiting to try the IC first.

wow that stinks, I lost all of my old posts and have one and I'm a newbie.

You may wanna try an SSX choke. I use one in my 500 and it does a great job with #7 shot.

Thanks bud, I'll have to ad that one to the try out list.

First of all, congratulations on your new gun. From what I can see and based upon what I hear from my readers, it's become a very popular model for Mossberg.
As you know, you have a very wide choice of chokes for that gun. The readers who've tried the SSX are reporting excellent results and good dense patterns with a variety of shells, Hevi-13 with $#6 and #7 being the best of course.
Whatever you choose, best of luck to you this spring.
Thanks,
Clark

Clark, thank you sir.  Wheres a good place to get the SSX?
Thanks again,

				Congrats on the new toy.
I carried a Mossy 500 for many years and just last year decided to step it up and bought a 535 turkey/deer combo and couldn't be happier. This year I am going to top it with a red dot and play with the choke a bit and it should be a bona fide killer.
