Remington has a 870 model tactical shotgun with a 18" barrel and screw on chokes. Could this gun double has a good turkey gun? How do you think a 18" barrel with a turkey choke would perform?
You never know. With the right choke and shell anything can be a turkey killer. If all else fails it sure will make a great rabbit shooter!
I think you will be ok. I think you can easily find a good combo to make that a 40 yard gun. Winchester offered an 18 barrel for the 1300 so it has been done before.

William at SumToy recommended I start out with a .650 choke for my 18" 870. I'll post a report after it gets here and I get to shoot it.
