Title: American Chestnut wood for calls
Post by: Oconeeguy on February 14, 2012, 05:33:37 PM
Are calls currently being made with American Chestnut wood? I have a kitchen table made in the 1980s from some floor joists from a cabin in N.C., and I am thinking of the possibilities for it. The table doesn't fit into the decor of our new home

Yes chestnut makes some very good sounding calls, if the wood is good and useable.

American chestnut makes a great sounding caller, if your table is less the 1 inch thick, you could always rip it on your bandsaw to a little over 1/4" and use it for a glued up box. If you are wanting to unload a pile of that drop me a line...lol....pappy

Mr. Scott of Scott's Cutters in Cochran routinely makes box calls out of chestnut.
