Title: Low base #5
Post by: shuey270 on February 05, 2012, 03:15:14 PM
Taking my 11 year old daughter this spring and looking for some low base 5 shot. Anyone know if they make them.  All I've seen are 7 and 8's. 12 gauge

Winchester makes a 1 Ounce 12 Gauge Low Base "Super Speed" #6 at 1350fps.  $5-$6 per box of 25 during Dove Season at Wal-Mart.

I'd recommend the Remington Nitro Sporting Clays 1 1/8 Ounce #7.5 load at 1300fps.  About $8 per box of 25 at Wal-Mart, usually in stock all year round.

shuey 270, It was fun to talk turkey with you at Gander Mountain on Saturday. Good luck in your search for those shotshells. Also good luck this Spring.   WTT.

Another vote for Remington Nitro Sporting Clays here. Awesome small game load, too...fast, and the hard shot really puts down squirrel and doves. I once took a squirrel off a limb at 55 steps with this load through an old Springfield double barrel shotgun choked modified/full.

just an option but would remington pheasant loads work they are 2 3/4'' 1 1/4 oz of shot and you can get them in 6's and 7 1/2 only down fall is you would prolly have to get the bird between 20-30 yards,,,,,,,

just a thought,,,,,

Add another vote for the Remmy Nitro Sprting rounds!  Awesome little shells! pattern super well in anything I shoot em through and really packa wallop on small game.  Made some amazing high pass shots on doves this past fall where you would've thought for sure you'd never touch em and down they came, stone dead.
