Title: Browning Maxus
Post by: Gobblestik on February 02, 2012, 09:48:54 AM
My dad just bought a browning Maxus. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on choke/shell combos.

I was thinking Jellyhead/with Hevi 7's or PG with Hevi blends or #6's?

any thoughts or experience with this gun?

Congratulations to your Dad. It should make him quite a turkey gun.

Even though it's a brand new gun, I'd recommend that he "deep clean" the bore. If you or he are not familiar with that process, you can read the article
"Cleaning a Shotgun Barrel" by clicking on my banner below.

Regardless of the chamber length, I'd recommend the 3" Hevi-13 "Bronze" shells with either 2 oz. of #6 (my favorite) or #7 shot.

I am also seeing some excellent results from the Invector+ barrels and the Hevi-13 Turkey Choke. It's rated for all lead and tungsten-based shot and has excellent internal geometry. Another excellent choke with Invector+ barrels is the SSX. Both produce great patterns are are very reasonably priced for a premium quality turkey choke.

Best of luck to both you and your Dad.

Thanks,
Clark

Great patterns out of mine with the pure gold and hevi 13 #7s no mechanical problems with mine and I have shot it a bunch.

I haven't patterned my Maxus yet but my browning gold loves the pure gold .670 ported choke with anything in hevi shot 6's or 7's.
