What shell/choke combo would ya'll go with is you were going back to lead?
Tristar Viper G2 Turkey 24" barrel (beretta/benelli mobil)
Remington 870 26" barrel
I couldn't find anything last year I liked with the tristar. I only tried a couple chokes with a few different loads.
I was going to go with hevi mag blends in the 870 and a jellyhead 665 and a pg 670 w hevi 6s in the star.
I would rather shoot lead just because I hate the 4-5/shell of HTL
Kicks .655-.660 have performed well in my 870's and most I've heard about. Win 3/2/6's in the .655 and Win 3/2/5's in the .660 are generally bad medicine but you don't know until you experiment.:anim_25:
Yep kicks .655, I just bought one my SBEII and i have one for my Rem. 870. win xx, win. HV, or the OLD PRE flight control federal shells. Killed a ton of turkeys with those.
I have a Preston Pitmann Boss Buster in my 835, pretty much just like the Star Dot chokes. I have enough Hevi-13 to get me thru this spring but I have made a financial choice to go back to lead after coming across a ton of Win. 3.5 HV 5's and 6's at Wal-Mart for $8/box. I need to get out and pattern it, I have a Brileys in .675 that I plan on testing with the Win. HV also.

I heard the the turkey choke that comes with the 835 works great with lead. It is rated just for lead. One came in my 835 when I bought it in July. You are welcome to try it if you like to see if you would be interested in getting one. They are $30 from Mossberg but you might be able to find them cheaper somewhere else.

I have the factory choke from when I bought mine, never shot it. I got the Brileys when I started shooting Hevi, I plan on seeing what the factory will do also. A friend of mine got an 835 for his son last year and we ran 3" Federals (pre FCW) and the patterns were effective to probably 30-35 yards. The 3.5's may surprise me w/ the factory choke. Thanks for the offer.
I use a kicks with #4's
Wow! That's better than some htl patterns!
Winchester lead especially the hv round seems to be the ticket.

In my pattern testing, the one load that seemed to pattern well in any shotgun I ran it through was the black-hull Winchester Supreme 1 and 3/4 oz. 3 inch #5 shell. They're not really all that expensive or hard to find, either. Our local Wal-Mart has them every year before season.
Oh..sorry! Forgot to mention the chokes....I tested with a Mossberg 835/Preston Pittman ported choke; Rem 870 Express with 28" barrel and factory full choke; Remington 870 Express with a 21" barrel and factory extra-full choke.
Through the 835, I actually got a better pattern with the 3 inch #5 loads than with the 3 and 1/2 inch ones....
X2 on the winchester supremes
