Title: Gonna try the Jellyhead .660 this year
Post by: FttFttVroom! on January 14, 2012, 03:48:07 PM
I finally decided to try something different for a change.  My previous setup was a Kicks GT .665 with 3.5-2-6 WinXRHD shells.  I shoot an 870 supermag with 23"barrel.  I was getting 170-180 hits in the ten at 40 yds.....which is potent enough and did the job last spring.  I just got my Jellyhead .660 and want to see if I get any improvement out of my current Winchester loads and possibly throw some Hevi-13 6's or MagBlends through it.  Just finished deep cleaning the choke and barrel and will shoot tomorrow as we are predicted to have a calm 63 degree day!

It will be very interesting to hear about your results when you compare the 2 chokes side by side.

Thanks,
Clark

I use the JH 660 in a 870 supermag but with 26" barrel.  With the Hevi 13 3.5-2.25-6 I had 220 hits at 40 yards.  Im gonna give the #7s a try this year and see how much it improves.

Thanks, I dont think I will see that much of an improvement, but going from .665 to .660 I am hoping from anywhere in the 190's to 200+

Speaking from experience, I believe you'll get close to 300 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards with that combo.

I am using a .660 JH in my 870SM. I shot XR 5's for a couple years before testing XR 5's, XR 6's, Magblends, and Hevi 6's. Neither of the XR loads were close to the Magblends or Hevi 6's. If your results are like mine you will like the .660 with the Hevis. Some folks say .660 is too tight for Magblends and a .665 is better. I would like to see a comparison with pics.

Well i got to shoot the other day...

at 40 yds,

jellyhead .660 & WinXR 6's - 146 hits
kicks GT .665 & WinXR 6's   - 182 hits

jellyhead .660 & Magblends - 186 hits

didn't get to shoot the magblends thru the kicks but i think it will do well.
I will post results when I can.

Neither the .665 or .660 Jelly head shot very well in my 870 3" gun.

The .660 worked well in my 870SM 23", the .665 work better in the 26" barrel 870SM. This is with HS mag blend.

Hevi-13 3" 2oz #7's

The Jelly Head .665 did good to break the 200 mark in a 10" at 40yds.  And te .660 JH may have even been worse but I can tell by experience there was no need to even bother counting shot.  And to add the Indian Creek .665 didn't shoot very well either.  But what was odd was the .655 Indinan Creek choke shot good with about 255 shot in a 10" with these same loads.

What was the Lot # of those 7's??  Sounds like it was last year's (2011) loads.  The Remington /Jellyhead .660 combo should have shot lights out with the 7's.

It was some good loads.  The same load shot very well with my MAD Super Max .675 or Pure Gold .670.  The Jelly Heads just aren't a good choice for my 28" Rem barrel.

Shot the magblend through my .665 Kicks and got 155 hits.

Looks like the Magblend likes more constriction with the .660 at 186 hits.
