Title: Help requested finding "hard" wood
Post by: decoykrvr on October 21, 2011, 02:26:12 PM
I'm trying to find a souce for the following wood: Manilkara bidentata/common names: Balata, Paraju, Massaranduba and Bulletwood.
The wood has a dense reddish heartwood and is @3190 on the Janka scale and is a Central/South American product and the most important export hardwood from Puerto Rico.  I've made several strikers from the wood and they are truly in a class by themselves.  The wood is used for furniture and flooring and would make great trumpets and pot callers.  Any information would be appreciated.

Craig,
I checked with a guy in NY that I but some of hardwoods from.  They are expecting a "container" of massaranduba decking material in mid-December.  Here is a link to the page on their site:

If you contact them, ask for Tom Elberson.  I gave him the dimensions you gave me and he said the decking material would easily cover the dimensions.
