Title: H&R Topper 20 ga.
Post by: Philippe on September 16, 2011, 08:00:41 PM
Hey guys, im new to turkey hunting and the only thing i have to use this fall is a nicely used H&R Topper 20 ga mod choke. Any suggestions? It will accept either 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells, i picked up a box of the Federal 3 inch flight control shells in #6. I dont have anything else to pattern it with yet so i hope these will do.

Keep your shots on the close side(inside 25) and you should  have no problems.

it will do the job if you try to stretch the range

3" 1.25 Ounce HeviShot Duck #7.5's would probably give you a "solid" 30 yard+ pattern through that Modified, if you could find some.  They discontinued the #7.5's, but they are still around in small quantities.

Or maybe try the Federal HW FCW 1.25 Ounce #7's.

You need premium ammo to help make up for the lack of choke constriction, if you want any capability past about 25 yards with a 20 gauge Modified.

Now at 20 yards, it won't matter what shell you use.  You'll be golden at 20 yards.
