I recently acquired some wood that had been the structure for a smoke house a long time ago. I was actually thinking of using the wood to make pens to raise quail. There was a small piece laying there so I decided to cut the end off to see what it looked like. The guy said it was all poplar and oak. Well I got excited when I cut the end off because it was obviously a different wood species. I passed it over my jointer and through the planer and decided it was cherry. I'm not sure how much cherry is in the pile but this piece was a full dimension 2x4. I got to thinking and can't remember if I've seen any trumpets made out of cherry before. Post some pictures if you've got one.

I don't think I have ever seen a cherry trumpet but I bet somebody on the forum has one. That is some very interesting wood and I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Cherry should make a fine trumpet.
I've made a few out of cherry and the sounded great. That's a really nice beam of cherry!

Several years ago, the landowner of the property I turkey hunt cut down a cherry tree that had a
massive burl, and he gave the burl to me to make turkey calls. I had approximately 20 trumpet yelper blanks stabilized, and I've made 7-8 trumpet yelpers from the stabilized blanks. Cherry burl is one of my favorite woods to make trumpet yelpers.

I'm sure those are some pretty yelpers.

This is a black cherry burl trumpet yelper I made from the burl my landowner friend gave me. This is probably the call I will hunt this spring turkey season. To my mind, the color and figure of black cherry has a great deal of eye appeal. It may not be as flashy as some other woods, but I like it.
Very nice, sweet looking trumpet
That looks great TarHeel. I also like the way Cherry smells.
