Title: Looking Better In North New Jersey
Post by: quavers59 on March 11, 2026, 06:28:49 AM
Turkey Populations are definitely  getting better in North New Jersey.  I saw plenty of Jakes last Spring in Sussex  County.
Brutal Winter- but let's  see how many vocal 2 year old Gobblers are Ambling about come opener of April 20th/ 2026.

Fingers crossed for this one my OG brother. It's been a while since I've been up that way.

Southern zones sure aren't what they were. I, myself have been covered up w/jakes the last couple of seasons. There have been long scouting missions every season. Keeping away from the other hunters and finding the birds is getting more difficult every season.

Good luck this season.

Your seeing small pockets, trust me the populations ARE NOT rebounding like you claim. This winter has put a serious hurting on the younger birds, frozen snow on the ground since early November coupled with the coldest temps in decades will definitely lower the numbers, no doubt. They have to take a serious look at permit allowcations if we want to see the "Old Days", (early mid 90's) numbers again. Stay tuned.
