Title: When Do Ya Start?
Post by: GobbleNut on March 02, 2026, 11:15:44 AM
Things are going to get hot and heavy here pretty quick.  So, when do you get to start hunting?

For me, it looks like I will start hunting in Texas on March 28th barring any last-minute snafu's. Then I'm headed west the next weekend for a few days. New Mexico starts April 15th and runs through May 15th with the potential for another hunt in between. If I am not worn out by all of that by mid-May, I might make a run to Colorado and/or Utah to wrap things up.

When and where is everybody else headed?...

Youth season April 4th need to catch A up to E. Been hearing about it since last season. A gets to shoot the first bird because she only got 1 last year and E got 2.

Then I catch a redeye after Easter and Easter dinner on the 5th to LA. See how things go down there with ambitious hopes of picking up MS and TN on the same trip. Maybe AL as well who knows. Goal is LA first. TN is the "hard" state for me in this mix as I'm trying to hunt the SW side of the state and don't know as many folks or areas that way. (Flying in and out of Memphis) But those of you who know me, know that the whole state is realistically open with the right tip. Just have a 1.5 days is the biggest inhibitor if I even get to it.... LA first.

Get back on the 12th and our General Season opens up April 15th going through May 31st. Will spend that time with my girls, friends, or myself harassing birds in WA and OR.

Good luck everyone.

Sometime around mid-April. Mini Me has a new shotgun on the way and we will have to get it set-up and tuned in. He has fallen in love with my wife's T/C pro hunter for deer and decided he wanted a single shot for turkeys.  So that was his Christmas present.

Michigan opens Saturday April 18.
New York opens Friday May 1.

I may try to squeeze in Wisconsin, Tag F (May 20-26) in Zone 1 or 2.

Turkey rigs are ready, started using the Beretta a300 turkey last year with TSS and love it compared to my old 12ga Ithaca. The 20ga Weatherby and 12ga Winchester are the 'backups' for the Ithaca backup.

Season begins here in Georgia on March 28, but I generally skip that week unless invited to call for a friend or something and wait for the public land to open on April 4th.   :fud:  :OGturkeyhead:

Probably will not travel at all this time since I have kids graduating from college in the spring and that will fill my time up pretty well for this time around.
