Agree completely!

I'm in the same boat there - gotta choose my old man. Going non family, I would love to spend a day in the turkey woods with Mr. George Mayfield or Mr. Ben Lee.

My grandad.
My Uncle Fred

My daughter!!
Beside family ... Ted Nugent ... What an American Patriot
My son! He ain't quite there yet! Another yr and I hope he'll be tagging along with me!
Grandad couldnt hear. Dad didn't much care for it.

Eddie Salter
I'd like to see Lamar Williams or Darrin Dawkins call one up. My two favorite call makers.
This is another subject where I would just have to make a list and pull a name out of a hat. There are a number of guys right here on OG (a few of which I have already had the privilege of sharing a hunting camp with) whose names would be in that hat...and quite honestly, I would rather hunt with many of you guys than any of the well-known, celebrity-types, past or present, any day of the week. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:
Family.... My oldest son Payton. He and I have had some great times chasing turkeys! He knows how to play the game respectfully towards the wild turkey! Celebrity... I'm going with Preston Pittman!

The only person I ever hunted with,My Grandpa.
My cousin. Great nephew, he has not started to hunt yet!
Turkey hunter, Bob Walker.

First my son, then Mr.Marlin Watkins
Ben Lee or Harold Knight.
No one in my family hunted so I don't have that conflict.
Charles Jordan
Past would be my Grandpa, who is the one that gave my family the love for these wild turkeys. Presently it would be my 9 year old grandson, who got to witness his first turkey kill this past spring. Afterwards he told me hunting turkeys was AWESOME! Lol

Probably Mr. Herb (McClure) for me.
Cannot name one. Too many to cut fool with and too many to learn from.

No family hunted, so it would be Mr Claude Strother after watching some of the stuff just posted about him!
That's a tough one. But I'd have to say Eddie Salter.
One of my daughters
I would love to hunt one more time with my dad. We hunted together almost 50 years. great times.
I would have to say my son, my granddaughter and a number of people here from OG.
Mine would be The Colonel, Mr. Tom Kelly. I'm looking forward to the day I can take my granddaughter, but we got several years still to go.

X2, all the celebrity hunters are great people, but the people on here are probably just as or more talented than the TV folks. You all (Do it yourself), find your own spots, and don't need (Ten Takes) to get your Tom. Good thread, interesting answers.
Without a doubt, that would be my dad.
My father, had me in the fields and woods as soon as I was able to keep up with him, never Turkey hunted, there were no Turkey seasons or birds in South Jersey back in the '60's. He had me beat brush with stick, flush rabbits, let the Beagles work'em, help me hold a big old sxs 12g and kill a bunch of rabbits. Upland, deer and waterfowl were all we hunted. :thanks:
I first turkey hunted the spring of '76. My dad always said he'd like to get a wild turkey. My plan was to take him the spring of '77, but he died the summer of '76.
Mine would be my buddy and mentor, Larry Proffitt. I've learned so much from that soft-spoken, TN mountain man. He's become like a a second grandfather to me after mine passed away in 2010. The man is a turkey hunting machine. But he's taught me so much more about life, family, and the Lord. Second would be my best bud, Guy. He & I call with different styles and we've proven to be lethal on many a SC wily gobbler. I always look forward to getting out there with him each spring.
My grandson.
Honestly no one. Here's why. I thought about this long and hard and if it had to be one person then it would be my daughter, Dr. Anna. Opening day was always reserved for her and me, no matter what. She passed away 12-30-2020 and it has taken a long time for me to savor the memories of opening day and our time together. So yes it would have to be her if I had to chose but at the of the day I would have to give her back and I couldn't go through it again.
Quote from: WLT III on February 20, 2026, 10:04:07 AMI hunt alone. Me against him. Care nothing about yelping one up for someone else, or they yelping one up for me. To me, turkey hunting has always been serious business
Figured you'd be your own hero. :TooFunny:
id pick a few members off of here, some aren't active anymore but pelican, old swamper, and WLT III
those are my picks in no particular order.
Family, my dad. Preston Pittman otherwise.
So many true characters to choose from. My father (who never hunted turkey), I would choose Col. Tom Kelly. A day spent with him would be one to remember I bet.
I'm like Greg Massey, besides family uncle or dad --- so excluding family --- I would take Jesus. If you don't allow Jesus, because that is the ultimate, I'll take Ben Lee.
Ben Rodgers Lee
I can honestly say I have never had the desire to hunt with any celebrity/youtube/video hunter or anyone I didn't respect as a person. I will gladly go with anyone I trust to be safe and good company.
I happen to know there's a couple guys on the forum who secretly fantasize about hunting with a G.O.A.T., perhaps we could grant your Hunt of A Lifetime some day, JeffC or Lecire. :funnyturkey:
I'd give up a whole season for one more hunt with my dad. It could be pissin' down rain and not a bird gobbling, but I think I would still make that trade.

Agreed. My dad is still alive but he has COPD and Emphysema with something like 25 or 30% lung capacity so he can't walk and hunt them like we used to when we learned how to turkey hunt together when I was a young boy. I'd give anything to have him hunt with me now like we used to, just one more time

My Dad, of course. He was an avid quail hunter but died seven years before turkey hunting opened in our part of Missouri. I don't know if he would have enjoyed it, wing shooting was his thing, but I would have loved for him to have had the opportunity.

My dad.
A very Dear Friend of mine that passed away a couple of years ago. Mac was a retired Marine with 20 plus years in the Marine Corps with 4 or 5 tours in Desert Storm and Afghanistan. We deer and turkey hunted for many years and completed our Slams together, traveling to Florida, Kansas and South Dakota. I would love to have one more hunt with him to say Semper Fi Marine and Thanks for the Memories!!! By the way, Mac's son Nicholas and wife Alexis had their first child (Bennett) this morning, a boy, 8 lbs 1 oz, as a kicker to this post.
This type of question really breaks my heart, thinking about all the good memories past... It would definitely be with my Granddad.
My future grandchild
Past - None of my family turkey hunted so I would go with Neil Cost. I heard he was a character.
Present - any one of my kids
Future - any one of my grandkids to come (fingers crossed)
Looking through this thread it is obvious what is important to most of us. It's not social standing or status, it's the love of those close to us. I hope those seeking fame and recognition aren't too disappointed they didn't even make the list. OG is full of just plain good hearted people.

Amen Eggshell! Amen! No Drama or Bull, just GOOD PEOPLE period!
My Grandpa. He passed away in 1982. I was 5 y/o so I never got to hunt with him. He never turkey hunted but he was a deer killer.
Besides my Son..
I have several, but 1st up would be Marlin Watkins!
Quote from: Happy on February 19, 2026, 07:29:00 PMMy grandad.
My Grandad got to eat the 1st turkey I ever killed on Easter Sunday 1992 a few weeks later he passed in his sleep. I wanted and have wished I could have called him up a Longbeard. So, if I could hunt with one person it would be my Grandpa.
Bob Walker the Turkey Thug
Kenny Morgan
Definitely my dad but non family would have to be Val Espinoza seems like it would be a great time.

My Uncle Hollis, he was taken from the world too soon. A real angel on earth, we all suffered that day. Z
Past - My uncle who passed a little over 18 years ago. He was the person who first took me turkey hunting. He was one heck of a woodsman and an even better person.
Present - The one I currently hunt with the most, my son. He killed his first one solo at the end of last season. I'm looking forward to the day when he calls one up for me.
My Papa
My Daddy. When he passed away almost 30 years ago, we did not have Turkeys in our County. Now we have a nice flock on both of our family farms. I would love to call a big Eastern Tom in and hear his old Stevens12 gauge roar one more time.Lord knows I miss that Man...
Discounting family that's passed on.... Wouldn't care if it was a turkey hunt or a them driving me to a root canal, just to see them again.
But, my younger daughter. She was my protege' from 11 til 16 years old. Ice water in her veins. Good caller. Stone cold killa. Then she gave it up.
Outside of family, I'd pick the late, great Neil Cost.

Very well said...

I feel like I have to explain that one a little. My grandad is still alive but at 94 years old he doesn't hunt anymore. He was the only consistent father figure I had in my life and somehow I inherited his love for hunting. He wasn't a turkey hunter but he killed a few here and there. Back when my grandma was going downhill fast, my wife and I went over to give him a break. We had a turkey hunt that went beautifully. I managed to call a gobbler and hen in from just barely audible distance to 20 yards and we got the show. My grandad was carrying his dad's 870 from the 1950s. Things didn't work out for my grandad due to bad eyesight and hearing and the gobbler smelled a rat after a few and was making a hasty retreat when I pulled my gun up and killed it. That was a pretty special hunt though and to this day is the biggest gobbler I have killed in this area. Fast forward some years and my grandad called me to his house to give me that same gun he carried on that hunt and asked me to try and kill one with it. I took it on a few hunts and had some close calls but no luck. It had an effective range of about 30 yards with the high brass 2 3/4" shells it was chambered for. On about attempt #4 it all came together. I managed to kill a pretty nice tom. I had my grandads box call and a wingbone and some military fatigues to keep it more time appropriate. The only thing that would have made it better was if he was within me. Since I was within a short drive of his house I did get to drive over, show him the gobbler, give him the gun back and visit for a few hours. I owe that man a lot and I woukd love to have another hunt, even if we just sat under a tree and chatted. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20260225/3f7580ea54bac21bd2f71ef2c510d5e6.jpg)
Very nice Happy
My best friend, E.P.. He just moved up to Virginia. We didn't get the chance to hunt together once last year. Whenever we hunt together, one or both of us is going to get a crack at a grown gobbler. He was my turkey hunting mentor and if I can kill half the turkeys he has, I'll be doing great. We've been friends for 55 years and almost had too much fun.
Jim

Absolutely Scott!! He taught me how to fish and hunt, and we shared many a day doing both. He left us almost 14 years ago. Oh what I'd give to go hunting with him again.
