Title: Pot Call Reccomendations
Post by: Drumstick-Bandit on December 01, 2025, 09:30:10 PM
I have a David Halloran Crystal Mistress, a Spring Fever Copper, an Enticer Aluminum, a Loftis Chatterbox, and a David Halloran Box Call (Macassar Ebony over Walnut). What other calls would you recommend to help get more unique sounds?  :turkey:

You have copper, aluminum and crystal in pots, how about slate?

There are a lot of great pot call makers. You will get a list of great calls and makers from the members.  Two of my favorites makers are Buster Halford (Old Hen and Red Slate over Persimmon) and Lon Trice.  I also like John Sinclair and Wendell Rye.  It would be hard to go wrong with one of those calls.

Slate over glass

Redbeard
Lon Trice

Both calls are outstanding ...yet totally different in sound.

Regardless of the maker of the call...of which there are many good ones...one of the keys to getting the  "best" sounds out of any call is matching the right striker with the call. For me personally, having one serviceable pot call (for me that is a slate-surface call) and a dozen different strikers available to match one of them to the call to get the best sound is more important than having several pots and only one or two strikers.

My advice is to focus not only on the call maker and surface type of the call, but also on getting a number of different striker types to run those calls with, including strikers made out of an assortment of different materials and tip types.  :icon_thumright:

If I could only have two pot calls I would want a slate over slate and a ceramic pot. And if I could only have one turkey call of any kind for the rest of my days it would be my walnut ceramic pot from Travis Wyatt.

Too bad ole Travis isn't making them anymore. I have many killer pot calls, but Travis's
ceramic is always with me.

I like mine so much I made him make me a backup before he quit!
