Title: Buster Halford
Post by: Tnandy on November 05, 2025, 08:48:32 AM
While waiting on deer season I was privileged to land me an ol hen slate in a walnut pot from my good friend Buster Halford. This call is absolutely amazing. Super easy to run and has a rich, slightly deeper tone that you don't hear a whole lot. Killer call. Do yourself a favor, if you can get one, better jump on it. It's a KILLER. He may have outdone himself on that one. Good luck in the woods & stay safe

He makes a good one. I got my 1st old hen a month ago and got right back on his list.

I love and carry my Old Hen but he also makes an Osage glass over slate that may be the best pot call I have ever owned.  I alternate between the two.

Buster doesn't make a bad pot call in any surface or wood pot.

I got two calls in from buster last week and I can't put them down. They're the first ones I've gotten from him. I got a katalox crystal over slate and his old hen slate. I already am back on his list for a ceramic, glass and persimmon slate.

Forgive me but I'm not a pot call hunter. I only own a gobbler pot call but the old hen, is it called old hen because it has a lot of that mature hen rasp sound? I'm considering one.

Mine isn't raspy as some I own but it does have a good deep rich tone that would definitely be like a mature hen. Tremendous call. It will definitely be in my vest come spring. I think you would be happy with one.

Buster makes some awesome pot calls, I guess that's why I own 10 of his pot calls... lol

To my ears it isn't on the extreme end of rasp. I have calls with a lot more rasp than this one. This call has a good throaty middle note to its yelps. The clucks are more hollow than sharp and crisp. I have a lot of pot calls and this one has its own sound to it.

Redwad stated it good. It is unique in its own sound. Great pot

Buster makes some nice calls. I have an old hen, a ceramic, and a red slate persimmon. They are all fantastic.

Have had several of Pastor Larry's pots over the years all very good to excellent imo.

The ones I should not have sold are his persimmon green slate and his acrylic stoned aluminum over glass,it would have been killer over slate imo.
Have sold his persimmon red slate, canarywood glass over aluminum and walnut glass over slate.

I kept the bloodwood glass over slate. Hands down the best glass call I have ever had. Got my brother a canarywood green slate over glass and it has risen to the top of his favorites in his vest.

Katalox crystal over slate will be here later this season.
