In your opinion, what are the best turkey calls out there. We all have different experiences and skill levels. As many as you want to do. I am in no way an accomplished caller with any of them, lol. I just like the way they sound and produce. Z

I would say in no particular order. Cody both slate and glass, Paul Durham box and pot. also Parks pot calls. Slaton trumpet. I know I am forgetting some. Need to get my calls out and practice then I will remember
Tough to narrow some of them down.
Pot call: I have a Pat Strawser slate that has been very, very good for me. I have a firedup crystal that just seems to entice them. Lots of good ones, but I'll stop there.
Mouth call: If I could only have one, Scott Ellis New Energy from Woodhaven. About anything Sadler McGraw makes is good.
Box call: I don't carry one often, but our own firedup makes a good one. I have an Albert Paul that sounds real nice.
Box calls: Steve Mann Walnut on Poplar, Albert Paul Walnut on Butternut, Lamar Williams Walnut on Poplar
Mouth Calls: Woodhaven and Legacy small frames
Pots: Buster Halford Glass on Slate and Old Hen, Lon Trice Crystal over Carbon Fiber
Gobbler Pot: Roger Parks
Gobler Box: Donny Richards
Longbox: Steve Mann Cedar on Poplar
Trumpets: So many great ones and I'm marginal at best but favorites would be Permar Hex, Seth Hamon, KP
Wingbone: Tony Ezolt
Box: Marlin Watkins, Mike Lapp, Mike Robare
Pushpin: Old Gobbler
Long box: Primos Battleship
Mouth-calls: Gooserbat, Pinhoti
Gobbler Pot: Roger Parks
Gobbler box: Donny Richards
Trough Call: Dick Kirby
I enjoy all my calls and I do appreciate the call builders who made them. These are my best calls ...
Box - mostly mine but mix in Albert Paul and Lonnie Mabry, both all walnut
Pot - Twisted Sister or Lonzo slate
Trumpet - Lewis Inzer osage, several newcomers to be tried
Mouth call - any ghost cut
Pot call would be the Cody Woodsman just brings those weary gobblers into range. :firefighter:
Since the beginning...I've evolved. Started with a 21-pocket vest loaded with two of everything (nicknamed it Noah's ark putting it on in the mornings, two of everything, but more how that vest weighed the same as his ark).
Today, just a Snodgrass long box or mini boat in a Yoder 'tank-tough' holster on the belt, a turned trumpet and either Sharpe or Ezolt Jordan, or Tony's wing bone around my neck. I carry a Gooserbat ICE call too (just the perfect little mouth caller). Picked up a Van Cise handled box last spring....I can confirm that Matt's got it all figured out with his boxes, perfect for spring or fall.
If it rains, I'll maybe, or maybe not, add my Woods Wise waterproof short box. I travel light.
I hear you. I find myself going lighter and lighter. I pack all of this gear and typically use the same 5-6 calls. This year I am going with a padded belt with molle attachments. No weight on shoulder and no warmth of vest. I may look like the camouflage Batman with my belt but should make being mobile easier.

This was me last spring, at the height of my own complication.

I'm 54 years old and have had 3 discs fused due to an accident. I do not use a turkey vest. I carry a homemade wingbone, a Preston Pittman mouth call, a possum fork tube call, my Glenda Green seat cushion (it has been a lifesaver) and starting next spring a Roger Parks slate. I try to keep weight down to the bare minimum.
I have way to many good ones but I never leave home without my Watkin box or Lonzo's crystal carbon fiber
Best calls in my opinion are the ones you never hunt without. While I hunt with an array of calls, one, if not both of these are with me every time. The past few years I find myself just bringing the long box and 2 trumpets. The short box has some nice mature hen yelps, the kind of "yawk yawk" yelp you look for in a box. The long box call is like no other I own. I can literally get a young hen, mature hen, gobbler yelp and a great jake yelp.

The long box is yellow heart over black limba. When I spoke to Marlin prior to buying that long box he mentioned this combo. He said the box sat around for almost 5 years and thought it was ready.
The short box is blood wood over wormy butternut. I gave him the butternut that I had sitting around for years.
Mouth calls: Jeff Frederick Mod v 4 Reed if I need one.
Pot calls: (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20251011/7e78582dc05395fe2bee93fd0a687f45.jpg)
Mine (something in Cocobola, or hedge, or Jatoba, or...... etc.)
Box: Don't use them much.
Trumpet/Wingbone: don't use much.
