After messing around with the single slate this will be the final product. I really wanted to incorporate the barrel striker into the finished product and it just didn't work with the beer cap bottom call. Soooo after messing around for a while with getting the dimensions right and opening the bottom more on the call I can honestly say that I'm pretty happy with the call and striker. This is a call I've always wanted in my collection but never could get one and I basically started trying to build fifteen years ago when I made my first SofTalker. With this call I decided to really focus on building my own DDAdams stop sign call and to the best of my ability I feel I have done it. Very well done, Bill...

Thank you. I should also say that I'm not a fan of burnt tip strikers that are used on just about every single slate that had been done before. I tried it but they just glaze over and don't really work well for nice clucks or purrs.
Very nice work. Really appreciate the vintage-inspired aesthetics.
What wood (or material) did you use for the striker peg?

Striker peg is walnut as is the barrel on this one. I also use poplar for the peg.
If you're happy with it Bill, I'll bet it's an exceptional call. Looks great, would love to hear it sometime.
Very Nice!
Really cool Bill!!!
Great looking call.
Beautiful work!

Like the looks and sure you have the sound right on time, as a follow-up to your soft talkers!

Thanx Neil. This call has some different dimensions, and the striker is smaller. This call can get a bit louder if needed depending on how it's being held and is best modulated by opening and closing the sound chamber with your thumb. Looking forward to using it this fall.
Really sharp caller! Like your preserverance on getting it the way you want for hunting.
Beautiful call!! I Love the shape (looks very easy to grip and hold) and especially the detail on the striker. Any chance of hearing a sound bite?
I concur with those others who believe it is full of pure turkey sounds! Looks great Bill!
Congratulations on your success building that call, Bill!!! For something so simple as a call like that, most people would not believe the time and effort required to tweak one the way you really want it. When you have that turkey in your head you want, something else just doesn't cut it.

I tried but no can do. I fought with Tapatalk and really just wanted to throw my phone because it's so frustrating dealing with it.

Marvin I have found that nothing in call making it easy. In the end it's a process of tweaking things until you pull your hair out (I'm bald) or actually stumble on to something that points you in the right direction and go from there. I've always said that the journey is the best part, and you also need to walk away sometimes and clear your head.
Great looking call for sure
Dandy looking call.
I like the design, it's interesting. The call and striker both look great.
I was lucky to receive one of these DD style slate call from Bill today. Great little call that fits great in my hand and as Bill said you can move your hands around to get different sound out of it, it has a few hens in it! Thanks again Bill!
