Title: Federal 20 gauge, third degree patter test
Post by: NEWYORKHILLBILLY on July 21, 2025, 07:52:59 PM
was at Walmart over the weekend and had some Federal 20 gauge, third degree on clearance for 17.50 a box. seems like a deal but after the 40-yard pattern I am not sure.
78/10"
65/20"
49% of load in a 20" circle
26" barrel Carson .575

That's about as good as it gets with those loads based on my testing and others.

I am kind of new to Tss and pattering. I suppose these shells do what they supposed to do. maybe I will shoot another at 15 yards. based on what I seeing I think this be a 40 yard max load.  hmmm close to lead only but maybe those 7's have a little more knockdown power. I guess the advantage of these would be more forgiving at close range.
