Title: Gun Oil / Cleaner
Post by: Greg Massey on July 13, 2025, 12:39:12 PM
What's everyone's favorite gun cleaning / lubricant for your shotguns, especially the gas operated ones and inertia ones?

Watch a guy on YouTube gunblue490.  He's got a pretty good lesson on it.

I use Hornady One Shot on all metal and internal parts of the gun. One Shot has excellent reviews and wins lots of comparison tests from testers on Youtube.  For lubrication I use Extreme Weapons Lube by Slip2000. Also has lots of great reviews.

Has it ever affected your POI or pattern? Mainly the first shot after applying it to your bore.

Rem oil, Outers,  Hoppes etc.  It's all the same to me.

Very light oil in cold temps.

There was a test of many of the oils and Hornady One Shot was the top in preventing rust and best for lubing. I did a test with a piece of steel by placing it outdoors with the Hornady One Shot applied and it did not rust for weeks. I use it on all my guns....best I have tried.

At 77 yoa, I don't think so.  I try not to shoot beyond 35 yrds with Longbeards 6s in my 12 ga. Encore.  I usually shoot one round at 35 yards and if the pattern is OK and centered around my aiming dot, I am good to go.

I know this is an older thread, but there is a u tube channel called "Project Farm" that tests all kind of stuff, putting products head to head and ranking them. He did a gun oil show and the results were enlightening.

Yes I watched it ... I use mineral Oil - now with a fiber cloth and keep it in a zip-lock bag... works great

Good deal. I usually watch his video's when I start researching items, if anything it helps weed out poor performers right off the bat so I don't waste time on them. He seems pretty legit, and looks to actually do real word fair testing.

Every spring, prior to our opener, I'll polish my 835 barrel with JB Bore Bright and Kroil oil for a couple of minutes and run a bore snake down her.  A couple of drops of Rem oil in the receiver and she's ready to Bust a Noggin.

The testing of One Shot was what made me switch.  What I was using was working, but I already had some on my reloading bench so I started using it instead.
