Several years ago I purchased several rods of cast acrylic to make a few trumpet yelpers. If I knew then what I know now, I would have saved my money for something else. I stayed up all last night sanding and polishing....then sanding and polishing.....then sanding and polishing some more. I finally had to get that thing off my lathe for some relief. It plays....and I like the finished product, but it wore me out. Delrin has moved up a notch. Sanding and polishing are not very high on my list of favorite things to do, and I don't see that changing in what time I have left on earth. I could have made 3-4 wood trumpet yelpers while I was doing all that sanding and polishing on this one.
Lol, that made me laugh Marvin. Well, now ya know ;D
I hear ya....sanding, sanding, sanding, and more polishing, is a real pain in the rear. Delrin is bad enough.
I'll stick with acrylic pot calls. I just do the outside of pots wet sanding and such and do a light cleanup on the inside less headaches. I'll also add that I have the utmost respect for the trumpet guys that take the time to polish inside and out a trumpet barrel, so it looks perfectly clear. I know it's a ton of work and way outside of my comfort zone.
I have no doubt they are a pain to polish, but the results are one fine trumpet... I have an acrylic trumpet that Rick Alessandrini made me and it's beautiful and full of turkey...
If anything callmaking could push me into a good rant, it probably would be trying to sand and polish cast acrylic. Also, I thought delrin was bad for getting tracked into the house, but I honestly think acrylic is worse.
Sharp looking trumpet, it polished up nice.
I agree with Crow, I think it's one of your best ... Fine looking trumpet
