I hunt a couple of private spots and will gobble given the situation. Tom007 turned me on to a new call this year and I am getting positive results with it. It is a gobble box by Mr. Donny Richards from Alabama. It is the mostv realistic gobble box I have ever heard. It sounds great anywhere but I found that it sounds super realistic under the canopy when the leaves come in. It has been effective for me refiring birds after flydown and they zip up. Yesterday there were no birds gobbling and I knew there were birds there, so I tried it, bam, Gobbled right back and they started in. Owls hooting, crows cawing, nothing. This is a new thing to me as we never gobbled anywhere we went. Safety was my concern and no experience in where to use it. It is becoming a nice addition to my strategies. If anyone wants Mr. Donny's info, please pm me. He is an awesome human being. Good luck and God Bless. Z
That type call is a death wish in Pa.
It scares me to even think about using one...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A gobbler yelp will give the same type results and is way safer even on private land. All spots get trespassers and gobbles attract others. Lots of guys can't or won't differentiate a gobbler from a hen yelp.
I didn't mention that the 2 jakes came back with some gobbler yelps a couple hours later. Mr. Donny actually called me and stayed on the phone till he liked my calls, lol. Great guy and a good product. And I hear you on the safety issues. I am very tenative to use it as a gobble. The gobbler yelping is something I am working on as well. Be safe and God Bless. Z
I'd like to take credit here Z, but Mr Greg Massey turned me on to this box and Donny's info. I got it for Fall hunting, but it is deadly in spring too. I'm glad it's working, and Donny is a great guy to deal with. Thanks Greg! Good luck with it Z!
Donny, gobble box is in a league of its own. I never hunt without it and I agree it makes the best gobbles along with realistic Jake and gobbler yelps. The overall build of this box is really special along with its history and Donny accomplishments / awards.
He's a fine person to talk with and has a wealth of turkey knowledge.
Tom007 / Z you are both welcome.
I use a gobble call now and then for various "tactics". Certainly use it with safety in mind but there are times I feel it's ok.
I looked at the gobble box by Mr Richards, or at least one I think you are talking about. Sounds great but looks like a box call with a rubber band on it.
I use a box call to gobble. No rubber bands tho. I just hold the call vertical in one hand and shake the paddle back & forth with it between my index and middle fingers with the other hand. Sounds good to me and the turkeys seem to like it.
Not every box call works well for this. My favorite one I have is a Robert Clifft box call. Ironically it had rubber bands all over it. I took them all off, just didn't like them. The box makes great other turkey calls too.
Box calls are somewhat bulky so I'd rather just have one that can gobble and do other calls, including gobbler yelps. Don't like rubber band because they deteriorate.
This call makes great gobbler yelps / Jake yelps without needing rubber bands ... A lot more to using this call than just thinking it's for gobbling only and using rubber bands.. IMO
The design of the call is different from a regular type box, His box has a bigger sound chamber and the lid is different and the way it makes the gobbler sounds is so unique.
In some ways you have to manipulate the lid like running a hen box, so again it does take some skills ..
Yeah, I ain't gobbling anywhere I hunt. Too many idiots about, and one state I hunt allows the use of rifles.
Any good long box or mini boat can produce a robust gobble, and do a terrific course jake and gobbler yelp. Van Cise handled boxes can do the same.
Gobbler yelps sure can change the day fast.

Happy just put up a big sign and tell them your hunting and gobbling... DON'T SHOOT

They probably will, but I never use or carry a long box during spring, I may have to try that this fall...
I am not any type of expert or agent for anything, lol. But I do know that the gobble off Mr Donny's box sounds like a real gobble. As fot the rubber bands, I think they are there to limit the range that you can move the paddle. A guide as it is. The deterioration I understand, but he sends extras and I ordered a gazillion and will never run out. I will just change them out every season. $4 for a lifetime supply. Seeing or hearing is believing, Tom007 sent me a sound file and I was convinced. If you are at all interested, just talk to Mr Donny, trust me, it is worth the time just to talk to him. Good luck and God Bless, Z
