Title: I Wish...
Post by: Taxidermist58 on May 11, 2025, 02:59:54 PM
I wish Browning would get on board with making a new Turkey Gun. I would love to have a Browning Silver Turkey in 20 gauge. I just bought a Beretta A 300 Ultima Turkey, which shoots a good pattern with a Carlson's choke tube. It's a weird duck though IMO, nothing like I'm used to. If it's loaded, you pull the shell extractor back to extract the loaded shell, and the next shell does not load into the chamber. You have to hold the loading gate down and lift up on the ejector release to get the other shells to come out, or, eject the loaded shell, pull the trigger on the empty chamber, then pull the ejector back again and repeat this process until it's empty. I don't really care for that, just me though.

I'd like to see a Browning turkey gun myself.

Should have a magazine shell release on the bottom of the shell lifter.

They make the SX 4 they just call it a Winchester. It's a good gun.

I have a Browning Silver NWTF in 12 gauge, but they haven't made any in 20 gauge. I've emailed them on 2 different occasions to see if they had plans to make one, but so far, they don't.

I wouldnt be surprised to see a turkey model for the A5 now that they have 12, 16 and 20 gauge offerings. However, for the optics shooters, you will still have the alloy receiver issue.

Love my SX4. This is my favorite dedicated turkey gun I own.

Winchester and Browning are the same company, as a business model they put all their turkey eggs in the Winchester basket.

I think Browning is a good company but I'm not a fan of the plastic insides like the ones in the silver. Think the m2 benelli did the same thing. I ain't getting rid of my m1.
Funny cause a bud n I talked about this last night. I've got an older ulti mag. His but a year old. Way lighter. Wonder what they did and the what it'll do to longevity.
I am sure guys will think it's ok but what happens as plastic ages? Does it dry out n crack/warp? (All plastic does) Now can your kids get the parts 30 years from now

Depends on what kind of plastic. I worked in a chemical/plastic plant for over 30 years. We could add materials to the plastic that could make it soft, hard, fire proof, UV resistant, etc., etc. I also have one of the first 835's, the Waterfowl Edition with the emblem in the stock. It looks as good as new.

Do you think most companies will add that? And how did the treating last after heating, cooling over 30 years? I can't see that being good

I have a Maxus II that absolutely waffles birds. I'm shooting #9 TSS with a Jebs 660 choke. Now the gun is heavy as compared to the A5 but a killer none the less. The new A5 20 is super light, and I do think they will come out with camo models next year. Shoulder the new A5 and you will like it. I am just waiting for more options instead of the only model they have. If they offer camo version, I think you'll see those as turkey killers.

I'm not a fan of the longer barrels for turkey hunting

I would think that they would want to add certain properties. We made the plastic into pellets for customers who injection mold their products and in any color. The customer chooses what properties they want in the plastic. We made it to their specs. It's the same color all of the way through, except some auto parts were painted. Yes, depending on what properties were added, it would last indefinitely. Heat or cold would not affect it, nor would being left in the sun with the right properties.

I got ya but everything breaks down. I'm sure reasonable timeframe it's fine. I'd love to see these plastic parts 30,40, 50 years from now. I'd not buy a gun I felt would become unusable. Anyway was just a personal thought
