Yesterday I watched four mature hens walk across a field at 1:00 PM. Shouldn't they be on a nest or with a tom? I am in Michigan so breeding season is still going on. Is it possible that there was a tom and he just would not come out into the field? They did all look back at one point like a deer would do but the lead hen was on a mission. What do you suppose was going on there?
No tom in the area, late breeding cycle. Be patient, mother nature won't be denied. Z
Sounds like those hens wanted to get across that field which sounds about like turkeys being turkeys to me.
Other than that not much going on here.
Your hunting will likely improve as season progresses and more of those hens are on nest.
It's just all part of the process as the hens leave the gobblers more, your chances will improve in your favor. Good Luck
Hens maybe still depositing one egg per day in their nest up north so until the clutch is built, they will continue to do what hens do. Feeding and hanging around the flock or other hens are in order. :z-twocents:
