This will be my thread, I'll report on it the rest of the way. I'm ready to get going and looking forward to the Teams Turkey Talk.
It is time for a little chatter, our team page has been quiet. Now you killahhhZ need to start laying em down and acting like champions again! Most of us will be at it really soon and it's time to get on a great run. Monday will be my turn at the plate. The week of weather looks pretty decent. Have fun and hunt safe everyone.
Let's Rock :you_rock:
Happy Easter Sunday to ALL my OG brothers!
:cross2:
Trackey, I was going to post the same thing today. I guess great minds think alike! This will be a good thread for our team to post stories or kills that were not an upgrade.
Thursday 4/17-
After a pretty good roost hunt yesterday in a different area, I went back to where I killed the bird on Sunday today. I had high hopes as it was 33°, calm, and clear. I got in there pretty early, and while listening from my high point, I heard an early gobble down below me and started the hike down in. As I got closer, I was hearing somewhere between five and six different birds, but they sounded on different property. As I was listening, I could hear a hen about 50 yards in front of me up in a tree doing soft tree yelps. She had every single one of those birds answering her. I felt like that would be a good place to set up, right behind her.
I thought at one point that I had heard a much closer gobble down over the hill, but I was not certain. Anyway, once I could tell it was fly down, I started letting out a series of pretty aggressive yelping and some cuts. She immediately started answering me and I heard a gobble down below me. Within 30 seconds, a gobble about knocked me out out of my seat. All of a sudden, I see five turkeys running up the hill right to me. I suddenly became worried that it was just a group of jakes.
Within seconds, these birds were 30 yards in front of me. In the low light, I thought I could see a long beard on the lead bird. All of a sudden he went into full strut, spitting and drumming at 30 yards but he was in some brush. At that point, I knew he was a mature bird and stayed fixated on him.
He made it easy for me and walked 5 yards closer into an opening before I shot him at 25 yards. He ended up being a two-year-old but had a really nice thick beard on him. He was not an upgrade. Just an awesome and exciting hunt. One more Va tag that I'll likely try and stretch out the season with as well as Pa.

Is that Bclarke you're referring to? I'm always looking for new calls.
Yes correct, bclarke from our team.
Oakland game calls is the name. I've probably killed my last 10 birds using his mouth calls.
I think he only advertises on Facebook and does not have a website. But I just get my calls directly from him.

Progress report.. No progress nuttin to report :funnyturkey:
Here we go, 0315 Hrs I stumbled outta bed, cold water on the face and coffee down the hatch. Plenty of time as we rolled in. High 40's no wind. Beautiful morning but Quiet, really quiet. Roosters are crowing... woods are alive, peeps peeping, song birds starting to chirp..
Zero gobbling.
One owl Hoot from Tracky Jr. GrrrrrrrObblObbleObble! Game time. We walk a hundo or so closer and set up. Now they're going in a few different directions now. After fly down it Sounds like there coming. Then they leave. We cranked em up again, on the way again. Silence for a good bit. So we gave some silence back with a little leaf scratch. The woods were silent for a good while. Then I almost loose my hat! GrrrrrrrrObbleObbleObble! Right on top of us.
2 super Jake's show up on the end of my barrel 10 steps away. They hung out for a good bit and put on a good show and walk off. I made sure they walked off a good ways and give it to them again. We got em going in a couple of directions again. We're in the middle of em good. Then they leave. The far group walks off further, so we put a move on em. Backing all the way out and circle all the way around trying to get ahead of em.
We think we're in the right spot now. We sit and call nothing. Call again, they erupt.. they're close.. again they're definable closing the gap now. They leave... son of a BEEP!
Now this group circles us. They walk in between Tracky Jr and me. 3 steps from him and 7 steps from me. 4 loud mouth super Jake's. They leave. We worked that group twice in hopes of the man with the Redneck tie shows up.
So we come up with another game plan, thinking these bullies are running off any Tom in sight.
We drive to another place a few miles away we have scouted. The wind picked up and made it a little tough. Now we're ready to leave in hopes to strike a bird on the way out, it happens again. Jr. gets one cranked up.. We ran out of time and ran outta real estate.
A great hunt today!
Stay tuned with more to follow.
Tomorrow's another day
;D
Sounds like an exciting day!! At least you guys had plenty of action!! :icon_thumright:
Get back after them tomorrow Trackey and Trackey Jr. :fud: :turkey: :icon_thumright:
It's been raining all day at my place today. ::) In a lull in the rain about an hour ago, a nice gobbler came into my yard with a hen and a transgender hen (bearded). It looked like the same gobbler and transgender that came in yesterday afternoon when the family was here for the Easter meal.
I'll be back after them tomorrow. :gobble:
Sounds like a really good hunt trackey. Keep at it.
Today was my last day of vacation before returned to work. I hiked back into a block of timber where I missed one last week. It was two long beards that have been hanging out together.
Sure enough, I got into their wheelhouse around fly down time, and they were gobbling on their own. Managed to work them for the next 1.5 hours. They basically just gobbled and strutted and made a big circle around me. The closest they came was about 55 to 60 yards.
The woods are really open there. And with the foilage not completely in, I was pretty much able to watch them almost the entire time.
They also picked up a third bird. It looked to be a long beard as well.
Had to take the dog to the vet so snuck out of there when I could. Won't be back out again until Saturday.

Strike Two!
Hit a different area today. Probably ha 6 different birds going on the roost. Long story short. Good hunt ended NG.
I get him to commit with two other Jake's and he is trying to run them off. Safety is off, dot is on (I think) I say, when he get to that opening he gets it. Draw down.... No dot on! Dot malfunction. :angry9:
Spook them they run off. I gain my composure, say to self, I can get them back. They come! A hen RUNS down the logging road right to me. She stops in a puddle right in front of me. Like she was in the desert for a week dying of thirst. Great... I got a live decoy. She walks in the opposite direction of the Tom.. even better. He's gonna walk right by me. NOPE! U-turns it runs to him at 40 yards no clear shot. They start to circle in back keeping the same distance. As I ease into position. Trackey Jr has the open lane... Whiff!
Game over! Turkeys are up 2 nothing.
Tomorrow's another day

Rained last night, fog this morning, so I didn't get out until 0700. Was 1/3 of the way to where I was going to hunt and GARR-OBBLE-OBBLE!! (or however Trackey says it!! :TooFunny: ) I grab a tree quickly and sit. Call..... GARR-OBBLE-OBBLE!! For the next 45 minutes he gobbles at everything, including my calls. But he wouldn't budge. Then he went silent. Didn't hear or see a bird for the rest of the day.
Back at it tomorrow morning then rain late morning and afternoon. :character0029:
Ive done that rain and fog hunt Rut I think that fog scares them a bit like they stay up on the Roost longer waiting for the fog to burn off. :firefighter:
Jake's, Jake's and more Jake's. Great day in and close to the roost, not a lot of gobbling today. My backside is getting sore. LoLoL!
Still at it, tomorrow is another day.
More to follow.

New spot today.. Scouting mission/ turkey hunting. This area still has tons of great sign. But quiet.
Jr. was in the game a little bit with some hen activity. Me on the other hand, nothing happening.
Here's on for YaZ... On the way home , driving through our forest fire in Nj. Turkeys were spotted feeding in the burn! WTH! It's still smoking. Them birds must have some asbestos claws.
Unfortunately, I'm off tomorrow.
OPP- Old people problems. Dr. Appointments, All is good.
Good luck ALL

HOLY CROW! All eyes are on us. They all know we are the team to beat. This thread has over 1400 Views! Don't.. under any circumstances give any of our secrets away.
:TooFunny:
Rain, rain, go away!!! Rained most of the day today, and supposed to rain all day again tomorrow. >:(
Good advice from one of our team members.....
If you shoot a gobbler early in the morning, and decide to see if you can get your buddy a bird also......
Don't leave your bird laying in the shade on your porch, unless you want the neighbor's dog to eat your turkey. :o :TrainWreck1:
And NO, it wasn't me.

I couldn't imagine this happening. lol! Talk about luck. :TooFunny:
I'm off for a few. Scouting mission tomorrow. Monday's weather is looking sweet. The weather man is calling for rain in the middle of the week. Jr had roost action like he's never heard today he told me. Birds hit the ground and went silent w/o a gobble the rest of the day. He also encountered a big coyote he couldn't get one off on. Of course he was heading in the direction of where the birds were.

You or the team member have got to tell the story, come on. I can very easily see how this could happen haha. My dog guards my birds the whole morning until I start working on them.
I know a dog that was sniffing around when me and Wildspur were doing 1 of my Gobblers when it came time to gather legs with spurs, fan and beard the beard was gone. :TooFunny: :firefighter:

How about some updates from some other team members on the season progress? I know wildspur and twowithone come in Saturday, and Dr. Juice is late too.......anyone else?

Will, Suburbhunter, Deputy14, Hayudog, Trackey Jr., Bclarke, Twowithone? ??? Any updates?
It's been very slow in my neck of the woods in Tennessee. Started off hot and heavy but then tapered off rapidly. The gobblers I have seen are following hens, not coming to or gobbling at calls, and very little gobbling on the roost. Hopefully the hens start sitting on their nests soon and the action ramps up.
You know the deal with Trackey Jr Jimbo. We gotta break him in SlOooooLy. Me and Jr were up against some heavy pressured state land birds today. I saw more hunters road hunting and scanning the fields then I like. Tomorrow we hope to be in the game somewhat better.
Fingers crossed.
Today's activity was light. We thought we had a fix on em. But NG. We got In extra early. Only to have birds sound off not far from the vehicle. I never heard them but the young ears did. The late noon scout proved him to be right. Yes, right where he heard em.
On the late morning stroll we had one sound off once. That's all he gave us. We sat with an hour and a half left and had to get up to leave at noon. Then they went ballistic on the way out of course.
More to follow on this one..
We're getting closer. I think.. :TooFunny:

I'm still grinding. :fud: Going to try to get out everyday this week. This morning I watched a hen walk 200 yards across a green field and come within 8' of me without calling once. No boyfriend to be seen.

They're still messing with us. Like you say Jimbo,.. Close but no CeeeeeeeeeGar! There will be no reports for about 5 days or so. Off to NY then Pa. Good luck to all in the upcoming hunts.
Good luck Trackey and Trackey Jr!!
