Title: TSS safety
Post by: 76chevy on April 11, 2025, 11:18:29 AM
TSS patterns are unbelievable. A massive jump forward in technology compared to the old lead loads.

I wonder though about Hunter safety. Have there been more accidents due to TSS and its ability to retain energy and more denser patterns at longer ranges?

While there are more hunters packed on public land?

I'm certainly very cautious where I set up and place decoys

Ideally like to be in a wide open field and a blind where I could see anyone approaching and it's clear there's a hunter set up. Otherwise, only set up the decoys where I would be able to see an approaching hunter.

Well I don't know about more accidents from TSS.

But I do know using TSS isn't contributing to an unsafe situation like decoys/fans do.

Someone starts shooting #2 or even #4 TSS, and that could certainly create some safety issues, as well as some ethical issues with hunters attempting to body shoot birds at long ranges.

I know the Dead Coyote Hevi-Shot will roll coyotes at 60 yards with the right gun (I believe #T in Hevi-Shot).

At some point if issues arise we could see regulation in shot size and/or density.  Not sure we need anything more dense than say 15 g/cm³, but that is another topic and thread.

Seems the most dangerous thing in the woods is an old man way past his prime these days.
