Question for members on the forum. I am curious as to how you carry your mouth calls. I carry mine in their respective plastic case they come in and place them in a pocket. I am considering a wallet type case that can hang around my neck or a pinch pouch. What have you found to be beneficial to hunting and carrying multiple mouth calls. Do you prefer leather over any other material?
I converted a 19th century sterling silver matchsafe into a diaphragm mouth call case. I found a size that was large enough to house all the calls I wanted to carry; then I took it to a jeweler to add a lanyard loop. It works very nicely.
That is really nice Tarheel. An unexpected find just browsing. :icon_thumright:
That is a cool case and way to carry a few calls. I carry two plastic cases that will carry about five calls each. My only real advice for carrying mouth calls is to carry them in something that you can disinfect.
Using something that cannot be disinfected thoroughly on a regular basis to kill bacteria is a sure-fire way to get sick. Take my word for it. Many years ago I was not too careful about taking the time to disinfect my calls and cases on occasion during and after the season. Every spring just about the time the season would start, I would get sick with a sore throat and irregular heartbeat. I finally put two and two together and figured out that the bacteria that was surviving in my calls during the off-season was the culprit.
Nowadays, I am very careful and religiously disinfect my calls and cases both during the season on occasion and most definitely at the end of the season when I store them away.
So, I'm REALLY fancy and TOTALLY hi-tech....
I carry mine in a plastic Skoal can from back about the first year Skoal ever came in plastic. 1983 or 1984.
I carried mine in a plastic quaker boy container for around 30 years lost it last year looked multiple times for it I miss it already can't find anything that opened as easy
Dang! Mr. Marvin is certainly creative. I appreciate the feedback back. I remember a post on here about disinfecting calls and I have been careful since. That's what had me questioning the leather wallet type holders versus the fabric. The match case is certainly interesting.
Here is a picture of the matchsafe open showing the gold washed internals and a couple of calls. I just soak it in hydrogen peroxide whenever I think about it, and so far I haven't had any bacteria issues. I don't have any concern about the silver tarnishing. I've been using it for the past 20 years, and this is the color it is....so I think I'm good for at least another 10........

I bought this 30+ yrs ago from these people at a Sportsman's show. Remember to disinfect your calls before the season starts and after every hunt when used.

I use this little case from Alps. Clips right on my vest and provides easy access.
I'll give Lyle at Houndstooth a shout out. He's got imho the best diaphragm wallet.
My practicing calls are just inside a plastic cassette case that's kinda broken. Easy to clean and the break lets air into it so they dry out pretty nicely if I don't pack too many into it. Can always just lay it open.
This was my main container until my wife surprised me with a custom call wallet with the spring loaded top as a gift. Makes me feel like a hotshot call maker but that only gets used while hunting.
I carry mine in a metal no crush snuff can or an altos tin. I've cut a piece of thin sponge to shape and lay it in the bottom and put mouth wash just enough to wet the sponge to keep the calls clean and fresh.

This is what I use as well. You need to be able to clean/disinfect it easily.
if your caring them in any type of plastic case make sure it has a vent hole, I learned the hard way many yeas ago.
Thanks for the replies fellas

I agree this is my favorite as well. I have tried a bunch through the years but this is the best.
That Houndstooth one looks pretty slick
I just received the Houndstooth diaphragm call pouch, and I am glad I bought it. This will pouch will work perfectly.
I've used a pinch pouch around my neck for the last 15 years or so, current one is leather and made by my buddy at Swinging Snoods Turkey Calls at a very reasonable price compared to most I've seen
I've got the Houndstooth from Lyle also, I'm liking it so far, quiet magnetic closure, not Velcro

Years back, I did use one of them cloth lanyard things..NG. Now I keep em clean during the season. I do my best to disinfect properly, rinsed with water and a lil mouthwash with no alcohol, pat dry and keep cool. Nothing like getting sore throat 2nd week in. We definitely don't want that.
At the end of the season, When it's over, if I don't like the looks I just toss them. I make my own yelpers now so it's easy to do that. You will definitely increase the life expectancy of your calls when you do keep care of em properly.
Jmo..The plastic cases that you can keep 4 calls in it are the best option. I think Primos makes em.

Here ya go. I needed a new one so I got 3 and Fedex just delivered them. Get on their E-mail list and they have some $5 shipping from time to time which cuts your per item costs way down. Here's the one I just used (5SHIP01776), it may or may not work as they normally only honor it for about 3 days. Hope this helps everyone.
I've had a few I really like the pinhoti call wallet.

Holds half a dozen calls easily plus there is a separate area on the backside that would hold some reed separators if needed.
