Title: Jim Shelley box
Post by: Swampmonkey on January 22, 2025, 11:37:29 AM
Anyone have any experience with one of Jim Shelley's long boxes? Been looking at adding a long box to the arsenal for a while now and just happened to run a cross one of his.

Haven't used one of Jim's box calls, but I do have one of his Push-pins. Quality construction and sounds great. Good guy to deal with.

Thanks for the response. I think I'm going to give the box a try.

I have a snake wood and Holly long box from him, it's a good call for the money. His push buttons also sound nice

What does the inside of his push/pull look like? I went to his site and no pics of the inside, is it a spring, single wire or rubber band?

Spring that's adjustable and a silencer as well as a "cluck" button

Dr. Shelley's box calls are very underated. I have bought about 20 of them over the years and would hunt any of them. And you won't beat his prices. And it is always nice to deal with a class act individual.

I haven't had experience with his long boxes, but the glass over carbon fiber in canarywood I have from him is incredible. If a maker knows what sounds good on one call, the others generally follow suit pretty well. Also, you won't find a better individual. Great man that will spend time talking to YOU because YOU are important to him. Hard to find that these days.

I played with his push pin call at Nashville. It is a really good sounding call with some great features. I was going to go back by his booth to purchase one but time ran out on my stay. I with I had tried his mineral cured long box and the black limba limba long box. I have no doubt that they will sound good also.
