Was out before the crack Friday morning, taking my flintlock for a walk.
Heard some birds flying down a few hundred yards down the ridgetop from me. Sounded like typical hen flydown cackles.
Just a bit later, at least one tom lit off 4 or 5 times over the course of 15 or 20 minutes. Muffled by the snow cover. But the most wonderful sound in nature, nonetheless.
Their quiet in my neck of woods so far gobbler season cant get here fast enough. :firefighter:

What state ??
Couple days shy of 3 months, yet, here....
Starting to get that itch again. Counting down the days to season.
They're gobbling in nj as well. I suspect this storm will stall that
Buddy messaged me this morning the birdies were singing. :happy0064:
We should all know by now that turkeys strut and gobble the entire year, there is no down time yes less activity but still year-round. I have days in the fall that would rival springtime as the gobblers' merge into Winter Flocks and they sort their social order out. Now gobbling is one thing, but if we are talking actual Breeding Ritual then more by locale.

Yep.
But, I'm guessing they are sorta tuning up for the ritual. It's time. Our birds hens COULD be beginning to lay within a month or so.
Starting my pre-season scouting tomorrow, bright and early. No idea what I'm in for but just gonna poke around a bit.
Anyone else been out?
I stuck my head out the back door yesterday morning. ;D
It seemed like a morning they COULD be going off. But, no.
Saw a flock last week Hens & Gobblers together their getting ready.Nice Flock bout 50 birds. :firefighter:
Nobody was talking for me on Saturday. Honestly thought there was a chance because it was 50 at the truck when I left the house and it wasn't as windy as they had been calling for. I think that was probably the high for the day at 05:00 and then the wind and white stuff kicked up as the day progressed.
Won't be long now!
Haven't heard gobbling in western PA yet, but the big flocks have started breaking up. Seen solo and small groups of males roaming around the farm.
Nothing yet in my area of Allegheny Co..
Was out in the dark this morning trying to get a coyote to do something stupid in front of me.
Hit the first howl on the FoxPro and the whole ridge behind me lit off with gobbling birds !!!
Kinda surprising for a 24° morning...

Looks like the wind is going to start winding down now, finally. For about two weeks there it was really cranking every day. Sucks when you're trying to cover as much ground with your ears as possible preseason!
Yeah. The wind has been viscious. It laid down last night. But it was 13° this morning, so.....
Usually, I'd have close to 3 solid weeks of morning recon by now.
I ain't been out, YET.
Was cruising the country roads tday. Saw 2 nice gobblers with about 13 hens. Hens were eating and the gobblers were being gobblers. :firefighter:
I think I have seen 4 roadkilled turkeys in the last 7 days. At least 2 longbeards. Another unidentified male. And one "just a turkey".
:(
Saw 3 nice strutters between Uniontown and Brownsville along 43 and 40.
The first 2 were together standing in full strut with 4-5 hens.
The 3rd was solo in a field, standing full strut.
Got me pumped up and jealous since I live in WV and haven't seen anything in my area.
