Post by: redwad on January 18, 2025, 11:57:33 AM
Hearing all the great things about marlin watkins calls has me wondering what everyone's favorite call of his is? Also how can I get in touch with him to order a call? TIA

Thank you. I just got off the phone with him. He spent 40 minutes talking with me and playing calls. Even sent sound files. I went with a yellow heart and sycamore. Can't wait to get it.

That sounds like a pretty cool combo, unique! You absolutely can't go wrong with one of his calls, good choice

I have a bloodwood on butternut fiddle paddle and a poplar on hornbeam fiddle box.  Marlin just doesn't make bad sounding calls.

I have hunted this Yellowheart over Black Limba box religiously in the spring, fall and winter season. It has an all around great tone. Hen on both sides, young and old as well as some great gobbler yelps on the right side. This call is on every hunt. He makes top notch calls.

Serviceberry over wormy chestnut fiddle box. It's a great sounding call that can do so much based on how you hold the box. Can even do a soft tree yelp if I get it just right.

Marlin is The Best!!!
My three favorites:
Wormy butternut and bloodwood fiddle box,
Ironwood and snow goose yelper,
Soft talking slate coaxer.

Plus, a combo so nice, I bought it twice: macassar over persimmon
(Full disclosure I have twin sons, but I do highly recommend this wood combination)
