When you can no longer do something one way, you try another. Personally, I prefer using leather to construct the end caps, but when that is not an option you have to do something else. Cork top and wood bottom. This chalk case will be picked up in Unicoi, so it will make the trip down to Georgia next week.
Another excellent work of art coming out of your shop Marvin.
Beautiful work, Marvin !!!
Wow!
It's very cool, make some more and I'll definitely buy one when I'm down there
Can't wait to see mine
Awesome stuff
Thnx Marvin

Zobo,
Unfortunately, my callmaking and bamboo shelf chalk case making are on hold for a while. My callmaking ended about last October. Now my hands are unable to feel or grip to hold things reliably for me to do any more bamboo chalk cases. Years ago I had a severe neck injury, and now I'm suffering the consequences. The nerve specialist that did the testing confirmed my problem is progressive, and the Monday after I return from Unicoi I meet with the spine doctor to discuss treatment options. I recently posted a picture of one of my scratchboxes on FB, and I had a request for me to post a sound file. Today I posted a sound file video on FB Sound File Central of me playing that scratchbox. It was a struggle for me to play that scratchbox. It was all I could do to grip the scratchbox, and my hand control was noticeably lacking. After listening to me play the scratchbox on that video, I may have trouble giving a scratchbox away much less selling them.

So sorry to hear this. I hope you see some relief with treatment, you probably will. I just got done with my second back surgery, I have a similar problem but it affects my leg not hands.

The doctor who did the nerve tests told me I was very fortunate to catch it when I did at this exact stage. My doing what I was doing making turkey calls caused it to flare up sooner than it would have otherwise. I have been told, in my situation, the problems are progressive. Addressing it now facilitates me potentially having the best possible treatment outcome. Regardless, it is what it is....and we'll deal with it. I don't have any control over the situation. God is sovereign, and He is in control....and I'm happy with that. But I do have a few people waiting on turkey calls, and I do feel badly about that. If I can ever get away from a list, I will be more happy at my work.....LOL!!
I'm sitting here at home wanting to be doing something constructive, and I can't. I can tell it's going to be a long winter . At least, on Wednesday I leave for Unicoi. Here are 4 bamboo shelf chalk cases with front and back photos that wanted to make the trip, but will not be going. Frankly, I believe I was getting better making them....then my hands gave out on me. Regardless, when I get my hands back, I know I have work to do. If any of you are going to Unicoi, please stop by and introduce yourself. I will certainly enjoy meeting as many of you as possible.
Stunning wirk
Good lord willing you will be able to finish the chalk tubes any anything else you want to do.
Outstanding work as always Mr. Marvin.
I hope and pray the good Lord gives your Doctors the insight to give you some relief. I look forward to our fellowship in Georgia.
Hopefully with God's guidance the doctors will get you pointed in the right direction.
I just received my cases from Marvin. To be honest his work is beyond compare. I've sat on the couch for 30 minutes just enjoying his workmanship.
Thnx again
Bamboo Series III now in the works. The feeling and grip is gradually returning....and as long as I limit what I do, I'm good at least for a little while. The spine doctor referred me to an arm specialist, and I'm still waiting for the call for any appointment. So with these, I'm doing things a little differently....better artwork, more detail...more original. I'm taking the time however long it takes to do it like I want to do it. No rushing, no pressure to finish for a waiting customer. It's going to be interesting to see how they end up looking finished.
Those chalk tubes are looking mighty fine! You have it happening!
They're looking great Marvin!
