I always thought Snakewood anything was too pretty to hunt. But hearing some of these sound files, it also sounds too good not to hunt!! So I'm wondering, what are some of the better and/or best box combos using Snakewood?
I think Butternut, Holly, Persimmon and Apple. They are the woods I've heard Snakewood paired with. My Watkins Holly and Butternut boxes are killer.
Pecan
I have a Preacherman shortbox in snakewood over spalted tamarind that's absolutely lights-out deadly.
I like Holly and Butternut paired with Snakewood!

Surprisingly..... I don't own a single box with snake.
Makes a killer paddle. But the way I run a box, I find it weirdly or awkwardly heavy.
Not saying I wouldn't own or hunt one. I just don't yet.
I have Steve Mann Snakewood/Holly
Mike Lapp Snakewood/ Butternut
Both Cost style
Snakewood / Holly Turpin Style
Snakewood/Crotch Walnut Turpin Style
Cox Snakewood/Birdseye Maple Turpin Style
All play great.I like a little weight to my paddle.
I got a Snakewood pot that sounds great and several Snakewood trumpets.
I love them all! Snakewood is fabulous for calls

Not a big fan of snakewood had to many forum cracks in boxes and trumpets. Best of luck
Snakewood apple makes for some awesome calls and it depends on who is making the call... IMO
Chestnut/snakewood!
A Hudson snake over teak and a SS snake over mineral poplar, both are some players! (https://i.imgur.com/JmMvoEs.jpg)
A Lyman snakewood pot and strikers that's also a player!(https://i.imgur.com/kxfuY7s.jpg)

I bought my first and only snakewood box sight unseen, and I totally agree. I definitely see the appeal though!
