Title: Red Dot or Green Dot
Post by: Walnutbottomout on March 19, 2024, 02:50:57 PM
Really torn between this decision. When shooting my bow I see green better but I've heard it's different in a reflex. When looking at both side by side they seem similar. Any suggestions? I know everyone's eyes are different

Now this might be the best example of over thinking it ever.

Which ever tickles your pickle.

I have Holosun's in both Red and Green dot and to tell the truth I prefer the green dot better.

Actually, no, it isn't.

If you have an astigmatism Red will look like a starburst and be hard to focus on. Green is a lot clearer (I have an astigmatism).

True enough.  Still.  Not long range precision shooting.  Have no problem with red and my astigmatism, even with the starburst.

So while that's a valid reason to choose green, it's still a personal preference.

Someone else would say their backdrop is green so green isn't great.

I own 3, 2 red dots on shotguns and just put a green dot on a target pistol.  I had heard the merits of green vs red (green better for astigmatism, better in daylight, etc.). Don't know that I have any preference yet.... Probably not a big enough difference to fuss over.  Get whichever one is priced good or whichever color you like!

Green seems like it might wash out easier in the spring woods?  Also green seems tougher on battery life.

I have a cheap for on my AR and it has both, I prefer the red.

I have on with both red and green.  I will switch between them depending on the light, background, etc...   I tend to use the red more often.

I have a "red-green" color deficiency which affects my color vision, but mainly red. According to the eye doc, this is a relatively common eye issue, especially for males. Therefore I go with green dots. To me, green stands out more, is brighter and doesn't blend in with background colors like red does.

I can see where you would think that, but it doesn't.
I use Trijicon Dual Illumination RMR dot scopes, therefore I don't have to worry about batteries. They are lit up with tritium and fiber optics, hence dual illumination.

I've got several some red, some green, and some you can change from one to the other. I will say when it comes to what you can see better, it's strictly depends on the person. Some see colors different. As for me I like the green but I have friends that borrow guns from time to time and some like the red.

Green for me, I see it easier and better than my red dots.

Most aren't using an RMR and identical dot using green vs. red have drastically lower battery life.

One I was just looking at went from 30k max to 7k max hours just from the green dot!

Shoot what you see better!

Holosun 507C green works best for me.

I preferred green when I had one on my shotgun for deer hunting years ago, the scope did both but like others have said green is better if you have an astigmatism and I have one that is quite severe I guess. Not over thinking it at all.

Have both and prefer green. Have the Holosun 510c-GR--love the circle/dot/ reticle arrangement. The same circle/dot/reticle arrangement comes in red as well.

I don't think there's a huge difference as both are far better than a bead, double bead or Tru Glo, Hi-Viz sights, but again having used both, will never go back to red.

If I were a few years younger, this would not even be an issue.

It's true the green is better for astigmatism in dot scopes. Idk though boys, I'm kinda liking prism scopes. It seems either color works easily and it works without the battery as a black reticle. I don't think I'll  purchase a dot sight anytime soon again,

I have red on the vortex venom and like it. I wish vortex made the venom with the green dot then I think I would switch to green

Green is harder on battery life, so keep a spare battery in your vest. I don't have trouble seeing either, but a guy I shoot with is color blind and cannot see red if it is a brown background. if you have good eyes and see red fine there are a lot more options than green.
