Title: FYI - south Florida
Post by: joey46 on February 18, 2024, 07:06:40 PM
Just a head's up.  South Florida is having a very wet winter  The spots you often found dry during the early March openers in previous years may surprise you.  Good luck to all.

Thank you. Does the same hold for central FL?

That's what I heard this weekend as well.  Will be interesting and wet but still can't wait to chase em.

I would guess the gators and snakes love all that water?

That was from last season. He was probably close to a mile from any open water. Just hanging out in that water hole in the WMA. Bubba

Wet here in North Florida too.  Creeks and rivers are all out into the woods.

I was out scouting this morning in south FL and there is a lot of water. The alligators were really growling this morning. Heard at least 6 different ones. Wish I heard that many gobblers instead.

It's gonna be a delayed season with breeding activity,  not saying the birds are gonna not gobble ...but we have had a succession of cool weather that is unusual
For this time of year

Also the rainfall , this is normally the dry season ..and it has NOT been

Normally it is hot enough in mid February for the birds in s fla to gobble their heads off

Super wet out there this weekend. The birds moved around a little bit because of the water.  They were doing what they were supposed to and they gobbled pretty good.  We even saw a hen get bred in front of us.  Hunting with young kids can be a challenge but so worth it.  We had 2 great opportunities but could not seal the deal.  Great weekend to be in the woods.

More scouting - more water!

Will need to bring a canoe and waders - agree with the gator growling and heard a couple of big boys that I wouldn't want to step near!!
