Hey all,
Been slow since deer season ended. Decided play around and make a new trumpet display out of a cedar slab. Something different than the normal thread spool holder. Wanted to keep the live edge. Buddy wanted one as well, just a little smaller and a lower second shelf. Made him one as well. Haven't drilled them yet for the pegs quite yet. Just wanted to see what yall think and if you all have any suggestions for future ones I make.
Thanks(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240128/353477b25c72a89e9799d1012c6095c9.jpg)

Pretty piece of wood, should make a nice display.
Looks good
Got the first one drilled up and some of the calls put on it. Figured I'd post a final product of it. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240130/35bdd2df3921e326ed80f5e9acc38032.jpg)
Looks sharp! A wise man once said "If you dowel it, they will come"
That's Sharp!!

Awesome display! Really like how that cedar looks.
Looks great
Thanks everyone. I'm making some more for friends. If anyone is interested in one let me know. I enjoy making them.
Great idea, beautiful wood and craftsmanship. I think you would do well selling them, trumpets seem to be the most popular calls these days.....good luck!
Love the live edge. Nice job.
Beautiful Chris!!!
I'm a fan of aromatic red cedar....especially the smell of it when freshly cut. For whatever reason, when I think turkey calls red cedar always comes to mind. No matter how you use it, it is a pleasing component. These are pretty slabs, and the display is nicely put together. Thank you for sharing the build.....very well done!!!!
Turned out nice.
Very nice work and idea, sharp looking.
Good looking piece.
Very nice!!

Just finished up this one for an OG member this afternoon. 52" total inches of length and has pegs for over 100 calls. Not perfect as I'm still learning, but very happy how it turned out.
What's my cut :TooFunny:
Very nice. I was making some similar to that but abandoned the pegs since they're all different internal diameters. I had ordered some nice plastic caps to slip over aluminum rods so it wouldn't scratch the inside of the trumpet but it just didn't work well enough for me.

That will hold a bunch.

Something a little different with Purple Heart.
Nice slabs. Do you have a large planer? Jointer? I made a router sled to do spalted pecan as well as some cedar that I had rough milled by a guy with a band saw. A lot messier but worked well for me to make some furniture. Still have quite a bit of ERC and pecan stacked outside.
I have an old table saw and a skill saw. Only tools besides that I use is a palm sander and a drill. Just using old stuff I have access to.
I posted the pic to show you how the heartwood changes some over time. Nothing can be done about it losing that purple color, it just does with time. Still pretty wood as it ages. It was a challenge to get the edges square on the bed without a jointer, but it can be done. I enjoy solving problems too, makes it fun.
Check out a router sled on youtube if you come across some slabs that are not quite flat enough or too thick. Easy to do, just makes a mess. I just made mine out of straight pine and it works very well.
You do nice work. Is the finish acrylic poly?
I love cedar
